Rebel Rebel by Chris O'leary is my favorite so far. It goes song by song through the earlier part of his career. Fantastic deep song analysis and meaning coupled with biographic details covering his life.

I think what you really want is the Pushing Ahead of the Dame blog. He released a book that collects all the songs up to 76. I've often considered buying it.

Shock and Awe does an excellent job (as all of Reynold’s writing does) digging into the conceptual/philosophical underpinnings of the genre without being stuffy or overly academic, and the lengthy appendix charting the influence of glam is very informative. Like Hufflepuffgirl28 mentioned, Bowie’s career looms large throughout the book but it’s ultimately not a Bowie bio.

Pushing Ahead of the Dame is the best Bowie resource on the web—complete song-by-song analysis from his earliest recording through Blackstar—and Vol. 1 of the book version was released a year or so ago. So even more contextual info, both technical and sociology-political, than the Reynolds book, but way less concise as a bio. Still, I can’t recommend the blog enough.
