1. Docs are combat/work boots and hence work well with certain types of fits and styles. Mainly 'edgier' ones like punk, skinhead, fits involving black skinny jeans, etc. Personally I think most docs look bad except for the classics: black or oxblood 1460s or 1490s. I've seen people pull off 1461s as a cheaper alternative to black postmans but again, it works best with a certain style. Docs, especially oxblood docs, can carry negative social connotations if you happen to be a bald white male. Brown docs look bizarre to me, especially the pebbled leather ones you've picked. I associate brown boots with a more country style, whereas docs are essentially combat boots so they look weird in brown.
   
   
   
2. Made in China Docs use corrected grain leather, it's not super great, the vintage Made in England ones use a nicer full grain leather. As far as I know Docs cannot be resoled, but they should last you many years of hard wear regardless.
   
   
3. They will be uncomfortable the first week or two you're breaking them in, but then are quite comfortable. I don't think they're a great beginner pair of shoes because they're a very very casual boot, and really only look good with a certain type of aesthetic. CDBs are much more versatile, but again it depends on your style.

I'm not personally a huge fan of the silhouette. Like others have said, the Red Wing Postman is considerable cheaper, and looks better in my opinion.

So I'm guessing comfortable dress shoes? Assuming outfit is wool slacks and a dress shirt.

Could go for some hybrid like the LunarGrand. There are a couple of more subdued options and I've seen a few different colors at Nordstrom Rack from time to time.

Maybe luck out on a sale for Red Wing Postman's?

I have a pair that's similar to the 1ks (red wing work oxford), and I don't think they'd work for a wedding or even an interview. Do you already have that pair?

If not, I think the postman would work better-- and is cheaper-- if you really want to buy a work oxford that can double for more formal occasions.
