Everyone is offering up permerthin, which is great and works. I'd also say that Repel has a lemon eucalyptus spray that, in addition to working pretty well in general, seems to also reduce ticks climbing on you.

Lemon eucalyptus - works great. I can watch mosquitos literally fly up to me, buzz around like they're looking for a hole in the force field, then fly off.

Also, if you do get bit, hold a hot spoon to it - the heat denatures the protein that causes the itch - sounds like a BS home remedy, but it works. Just be careful not to heat the spoon too much

If you're looking for a personal spray, try Lemon Eucalyptus. It's as effective as Deet, but it does wear off pretty quickly (esp if you sweat or get wet). My wife also isn't crazy about the smell. But for something that doesn't have toxins in it, it's a great choice.
While I have sprayed pyrethrum on my furniture and at entry points, I wouldn't indiscriminately spray it for all the reasons you mention.

Jesus that looks miserable, especially with how prevalent mosquitoes are basically everywhere. You should try out this stuff where I lived for college there was an unbelievable amount of mosquitoes like some fields I went on for work you could hardly breathe. This worked way better than deet, even the high concentration deet, for me.

For reef safe sunscreens:
Reef Safe SPF 30 and Badger. I use the Badger for my face. It doesn't rub in but I don't burn and it's very waterproof.

I don't know why you're talking to me like I've never experienced mosquitoes. I've lived in South Louisiana my whole life, and the mosquitoes in Lafayette aren't even that bad.

I can't attest to how well it works though as I didn't use it much last year. I think I will this year though as I'm sure I'll go out in the garden more this year.

I use this stuff. Really like it, seems to last a very long time, that in combination with the clothing treatment above usually means I don't have to use DEET at all. Might want to try it out!
I make my own deodorant. This recipe is not an antiperspirant, but that is better for your body anyway!! I love it and it’s the best deodorant I have ever had.

For sure, I play music and this stuff works really well for me. A little DEET on my hand instantly roughs up the finish of the neck of my instruments, who knows wtf else it's doing.
