These are my most treasured sitting on the shelf, and convinced me more than anything else did to move here.
His life story is really compelling. His wikipedia article is well worth a read.
Edit: This photo is from They All Fall Down, showing him protesting the looming demolition of the Adler & Sullivan-designed Garrick Theater. Bummed WBEZ didn't include one of these two books on the list.
These are my favorites for historical photos of Chicago, especially the first one, I've spent entire weekends browsing that site. :\
