I got one of these for my Kodi pi. Works like a dream. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00WQG6A8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_GbkCybZJFZJ16

FYI, these are knock-offs of the old version Rii i8 Keyboards

Newer Rii i8+ https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00WQG6A8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_b91UCbZ3T1TVX

The above link is for the actual Rii i8+ which has the backlight (worth the extra $10 alone), which this white knock-off does not have. I have had two of these for about 3 or 4 years now and they're still perfect. Also have one of the originals without the backlight and it's sitting in a drawer somewhere because it's pretty much useless at night or in my movie room.

WARNING, if you buy a Rii remote on Amazon, make sure you buy it from Rii and only Rii. Some people have bought from third party sellers (same link, they just selected a different seller) and were sent cheap shitty knock-offs that broke after a while.

I honestly can say these remotes are freaking awesome (if you get the backlit one). Just wish it had an IR so I could teach it to turn on my projector and receiver.

I exclusively use this site and love it. Install Google chrome browser on your android box and use this site. Works awesome. I had to find an .apk of chrome to install though, they dont seem to want you to. I use an Nvidia Shield TV, best Andoid box I've had.

To use chrome you need a controller like this one though so you can click on stuff. The one that came with my box doesnt work for chrome.

There are a lot of options -- to name a few:

Do the windows approach and set it to automatically open Kodi at boot. Or plex if you prefer that. This option gives you the most flexibility -- you don't ever have to touch a keyboard to open Kodi, but it gives you a lot more streaming options and the ability to use a web browser for things like Amazon Prime Video etc.
--bonus, you can create a launcher within kodi to open up Steam in Big Picture mode for light gaming as well

Or grab yourself a raspberry pi 3 and install OSMC on it (cheapest option, performance is "good enough")

Overall: Pick up a FLIRC usb adapter + a logitech harmony remote

I would also highly recommend a small keyboard for when you have to type to search a show, etc. -- I personally use one of these

I received the matricom G-box two weeks ago and it took a few minutes to find a decent video set up Exodus on it. But it's been absolutely great with netflix-esque quality and audio that syncs up spot on. I also bought a Rii Bluetooth remote and I couldn't be happier with the whole package. All AMC, HBO plus many more shows at my fingertips.

These are the two remotes I have that I really like. They both come with dongles that connect to your laptop. One is a mini keyboard, the other is more like a typical remote. I particularly like these two models because I have found that they have good functionality and range.

You can probably find better prices, these are just the specific ones I bought.

Yes those are good I have these two.

Nice setup! Hard work pays off eh! Just want to say, have you thought of using one of those mini keyboards??? Imo anyone who has a sim racing rig should simply use a mini keyboard. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00WQG6A8C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sNnWDbHXYJZ2Y

I've been using one for years. Can't deal with the hassle of a large keyboard and awkwardly trying to use a mouse while sitting in the rig. They are only 20-30 bucks on amazon. Couldn't recommend them enough.

I use a VNC (RealVNC). Not the most elegant but useful.

I use it with my RaspberryPi that attached to my network and decided to try with my PC when the old Netflix machine (Xbox) wasn't working.

Edit: I also used this for a while but it seemed to stop working after awhile. I think it's from one too many drops.

u/simianforce · 1 pointr/cordcutters

Thanks for your response! That might work! I wouldn't be opposed to a small keyboard/mouse like this so long as the interface is meant to be viewed like a TV

u/HostileHokie · 1 pointr/elderscrollsonline

I use a wireless one I got on Amazon Nothing too crazy but I keep it next to my sofa if I want to use chat instead of voice.

u/hrmdwlt · 1 pointr/fireTV

eBay always worked for me. Exchange sucks but breaking it down you basically pay

$100+any tax USD for the box, they MSRP $99USD.

$15USD for seller to pickup, list/email/manage, package

$13-15USD eBay and paypal fees (13% now IIRC)

$20 USD shipping

$25USD import.

Thats about $173USD which works out to about $231CAD. Honestly the nVidia shield was $212 CAD last I checked in Feb and spec-wise is much better than FTV4K, plus its available in Canada and works here easily.

If you don't need 4K support and can deal with somewhat buggy or 'hacky' software (not ideal but functional) the ones out of china on amazon are at least functional android boxes with about the same spec and power as the original FireTV. Just get a Rii i8+ backlit keyboard/mouse combo for $25. The remotes they ship with great to throw at stuff, not much else.

Hope this helps. The other way is to find someone travelling who will bring one home or up when they come at MSRP. I looked into reshipping services and they weren't worth it.

This one is working well for me, though I haven't had it long.

I had another Rii that was garbage, but no problems yet with this one.
