We have this shower attachment. And it's really great. It allows us to direct the water where we want it to go and we can start and stop the water as well.
Our dog doesn't really have issues with water. We started him with just fun baths when he was little (no soap, just playing in the tub like it's a baby pool. He's a Golden Retriever and is OBSESSED with swimming though). He's not a huge fan of the soap, but the shower attachment should help you out a lot.
I bathe my two cats regularly. Neither of my cats have died, exploded, murdered me, melted, or otherwise been harmed by bathing, so I see no problem with bathing a cat as long as it's carried out properly. I bathe them with a cat shampoo (never human shampoo or soap) and make sure I rinse thoroughly. I have a chocolate lab mix and his coat is really, really hard to saturate for some reason. It's like his fur locks down and creates a barrier so water can't get through.
I've always gone with the tub & cup method. Seems to be the easiest and cheapest. They make all kinds of faucet accessories that turn your shower head or main faucet into a sprayer, though. This one attaches to your shower head!
If that's not an option for some reason, they do have places you can go and wash your dog there with the commercial tubs and such, but they are a little on the pricey side, like maybe $10-$15 a wash?
It's the most useless piece of shit ever. Bought 2 to take with me to the states, out of 6 hotels we were on, it hooked up to none of them.
There's a pet shower hose thingy that hooks up to the shower head, it's a safer bet..But it's a bit of a hassle to hookup and dismantle, so if you're going to move around a lot..It's no good
