Lots of a shelves and filing cabinets as well as iPad.

Between my wife, who is a woodwind specialist, and myself as a brass and piano guy, there's a crap ton of music around our house. She has one of these from IKEA attached to her desk. It's great for separating stuff into small sections like solos, method books, etc.

We have similar shelves in other rooms where we can sort things by instrument and type of music essentially. Certain things that we don't really need out on shelves are kept filed in an orderly manner.

For loose sheets not contained in books I've got half a dozen larger binders that I keep things sorted into depending on the type of music.

Then there's the iPad. That's what I carry with me day to day for use in and out of the house. Not sure it's really a storage solution. It's mostly to keep stuff on me that I would use daily or need with some regularity like fake book, Czerny, Hannon, etc. It also keeps me from accumulating too much more paper I don't need in physical copies. I can often scan or take a picture of some music and create a pdf with forScore which keeps me from needing short term copies under certain circumstances.

I've got lots of ideas if you want any details.

EDIT: Oh, and also, those little wall mounted paper trays are great for keeping on hand things that you'll be using with regularity. If you're working out of a given book regularly, this is a great way to keep it near your instrument but not taking up a surface space.
