I use my Every Day Carry items....every day....which is why I carry those items, every day.

Used my Fenix UC35 last night during our snow storm to keep an eye on the dogs, and to explore the dark winter wilderness a little bit. I also daily a warm knit hat and gloves for the season...which are also useful in the snow, for obvious reasons. Cut a very long loose string off my coat lastnight as well with the blade I've been carrying around for almost a decade now, my Sypderco Endura 4. My smaller Streamlight Stylus Pro wasn't needed, but was there if for some reason I developed a use for it.

Just recently got a Leatherman Squirt PS4 which I carry in the little coin pocket of my jeans. It's scissors are very handy in replacement of my older Victorinox Classic which works great for the tweezers and toothpick, but it's scissors have had it. Anyway, I used the Leatherman to file down a couple finger nails I tore up lifting a CVT onto a cart two days ago. The single cut file was good enough to keep the jagged edges of my nails from snagging my gloves, so it's alright in my book.

Frequently use my lighter, a Ronson Jetlite to flip around as a fiddle item or to light periodic items asunder, or to bond them to each other (in the case of paracord).

Cheap single butane lighter.

Get a Ronson Jetlite! I'm deeply in love with mine. Cheap, hardy, effective.

Sure. It's a great little lighter. Period. The fact that it's less than 5$ at your local Walgreens makes it even better. It has a jet flame, and it runs off butane. The form factor is very Zippo-ish, but it is slightly slimmer. It has a strong child safety, but it can be removed relatively easily and the flame can be turned up to your heart's desire.

Been using one of these on and off for the past 7 years. No complaints. Looks nice enough. Works nice enough. Solid construction and it's cheap enough that it's easily replaced if it gets lost or stolen.

I have a Ronson Jetlite in my survival kit, along with other fire starters. For what it costs it's a surprisingly well made lighter. Very reliable. They practically give them away at Walmart. Fill with butane. Has a jet flame which is more wind resistant than a regular Bic lighter. I have a friend with a battered Jetlite that has been her main backpacking lighter for many years. Bics are a standard fire starter for long distance through hikers who are on the trail for weeks or months though. That should tell you something.

Remember anything with butane fuel has to be warm to light. This means put it in an inner pocket in your clothing before you try to use it. I have read but not experienced, jet flame lighters are more susceptible to high altitudes than lower pressure Bics.

I prefer to use softflame lighters, just enjoy them a lot more. For that I turn to:

  • IM Corona Old Boy This is apipe lighter, but absolutely fantastic.
  • Xikar EX Solid softflame for when I don't bring my IM Corona out.

    For torches:

  • Alec Bradley Hendrix FX3 For when it is windy, not really a fan of triple flame lighters though.
  • Ronson Jetlite The most reliable single flame torch made. Had one for a dozen years or so before it went missing at a bachelor party. Luckily a replacement is like $6 at Walmart.
  • Xikar Genesis A decent single flame, mine went missing at a herf unfortunately.
  • Carbon Fiber Jet Torch A complete piece of shit. Got a 2 pack off cbid for like $3, both quit working inside of 3 days....steer clear of these, CI likes to make them an optional freebie.
