Mishima is a fantastic author -- aside from his politics, his love of Japan and his ability to illustrate the Japanese condition are worth reading. His short on hara kiri of a military officer explains what is almost unbelievable to a western audience.

He's often credited with re-galvanizing the Japanese spirit at a critical point of history and priming the 80's business takeover of the "samurai" spirit.
