get one of these, iv had 2 of these in the house for almost 2 years now. Fucking golden.
I always have one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJ79UK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Y9RqzbPX790BX
And a handful of charging cables for different devices.
People love me.
While there's not much of a reason to worry given that such inefficient data theft is incredibly rare, it would be trivial to hide a malicious device in one of these.
Of course the bigger problem seems to be that you might burn the airport down.
My farm back in the day when Perk Unlock & Win maxed out at 2500 points per phone, per day. All but 5 of those phones were running it. A few were out for maintenance. And I there were 20 more phones in another room. All Moto G's except for one Samsung S5 (I think).
It's made out of cheap pine and shelves like these. I cut off the long parts and flipped 'em around. Each row is powered by one of these mounted behind in the center.
Tasker was set up to:
A bunch of them were also running AppOptix. I tried panel app as well, but it was really slow and I didn't want to keep location on to use it. I was using Xprivacy to hide as much as I could, but Perk's cat game eventually won out vs my mouse game. I could start over, but I'm too lazy. I miss the golden days.

Two different versions here actually
Two of these hidden under the phones in the second version. The first version only held 18 phone and didn't quite fit the USB chargers.

A power strip can be slim, though. I've been using this setup since day one (with modifications along the way) and I can't imagine making it much slimmer besides wall mounting.
Given this comment and that I am within the TOS, I think it is fine to post pics:

The strip could be replaced with some kind of charger, but the feet / base are already taking up X amount of space anyway, and the strip is within that X.
Regarding your current plan, I think this might work? 4A / 10 = 400mA, which might be just enough to keep the devices charged. This has a lot more amps, but it's pretty big.
> Cell phone chargers. Get a nice power strip that has USB plugs.
Great option for the modern multi-device world
The power supply is a Sabrent 12 AMP 60 watt

Honestly, way too much to remember lol.
Most of what I get goes to groceries and bills, but I do remember getting a couple hubs for my farm, a raspberry pi 3 (which I lost...), some headphones and a mic to go with it, a new bed frame, some drill bits for the desk I'm building and I could argue that all of the money to build the desk (~$400 in materials) was originally earned from beermoney. I just put it in my bank account first. And, of course, a bunch more phones.
There's tons more, but my Amazon purchase history is too many pages long to figure out the most notable things.
not that guy, but I use this and it works great! Most other beermoneyers I talk to use it as well
It's actually a 10-port supply.

I was specifically looking up what others used for their pi clusters and someone had linked this one.
here ya go
This will solve the USB-5pin issue. Small form, but it does require another USB cable for power.
this might help clean up some USB clutter, but you’ll probably be more focused on power for the volcas themselves.
Do you have pics of the piano?
I use this: Sabrent 60 Watt (12 Amp) 10-Port Family-Sized Desktop USB Rapid Charger. Smart USB Ports with Auto Detect Technology [Black] (AX-TPCS)

Maintains charge on all 10 phones, doesnt make them warm, and is 3"x2"x2" approximately.
Indeed..... That's why you should use a charging bank like I do......
I use these. In general, just google around to see what the Bitcoin people are using -- RPi's won't use as much power, but those guys tend not to compromise on reliability/quality.
I also tried powering my previous cluster with a cheapie power brick meant for Christmas lights. It worked... but kind of not. I had to use a few adapters to get from the 2.1mm jack to the MicroUSB ports, and by the time the electricity hit the pis they were all showing undervoltage. It worked, but not recommended.
That is a hub meant for data transfer, not device charging. It only comes with a 20W power supply, nowhere near enough to charge 28 phones simultaneously. Look for hubs specifically marked as chargers. Many people around here like these
Is this your 10-port charger? What are you looking to get for it?

This one I currently use. It's great. Paid for by Perk TV.
Be very careful of cheap multi-port USB 2.0 hubs (a hub allows you to connect multiple devices to one computer USB port; a multi-port charger like Anker or Poweradd has no computer connection):
IMO you are much better off with multi-port CHARGERS, such as:
People always recommend this:

I just got one and am very happy with it.
Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I've added a few devices since then. To answer your questions...
Setup guide - Sorry to say that if there is a setup guide, I didn't read it. I do IT for a living, so setting up a few devices on a network is not something that I have to think much about.
Paying for themselves - I got into this slowly. It all started from the profits of using CashPirate on a single tablet (not shown). From there, I used the profits to buy another device. The profits from that bought another, and so on. Essentially were paid for from the moment I bought them - except for the first tablet, and that was an Xmas gift.
Device management - I don't use anything to manage my devices, they are placed within easy reach from where I sit by my computer. If the fail when I'm not home or over night, then they fail. If an app starts to fail frequently, then I retask a device to run another app.
The timer - If the timer doesn't cut off power at the correct time, then it isn't working. It is a cheap, simple mechanical timer with 1/2 hour settings.
Shopping list - Some of the stuff you see in the picture was used because I either had it on hand or bought it cheap. I may not buy some of the same things, if I were to do it again. Still, the two things I do recommend are:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003D0KI1U
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJ79UK6
Everything else - devices included, depends on what is cheap at the moment.

This version may help you draw more power for each device.
I personally use this one and its great, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00OJ79UK6/
I combine it with a Outlet Timer, 4 Hours off and 2 hrs on cycles.
For serious perking, get this instead: http://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Family-Sized-Charger-Technology-AX-TPCS/dp/B00OJ79UK6/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1420496429&sr=1-1&keywords=10+port+usb+charger
Get a USB powered hub, I use this one and it works fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJ79UK6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DeCpybSJ0V1YY
are you using it with 5 devices at all times? if so, which devices? some of the ones i have may draw more than others (my quad core phones for example).
i may order 4 of those.. i was looking at the amazon basics 5 and 7 port and those are too clunky. im also considering this:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OJ79UK6/ref=cm_sw_su_dp
60 watt/12 amp i know will keep the 10 devices in it fully charged.
I use a 10 port plugin charger.. with a cable for each of the popular phones, old android the newer one and iphone. People use it all the time. Never lost a cable.
That's completely wrong.
You want a DC power supply 110VAC input with 5VDC output. The size of the power supply will be (# of devices x 2A). So if you have 3 devices you need 6A output. It's standard practice to size them in watts (volts x amps), so for three devices you would need a 30 watt supply
Really, the simplest way of doing this is to buy a USB power hub that plugs in an outlet, each port will give you 5V @ 2.5 A. If the device doesn't take USB power you could cut off one end of a USB cable and solder on the right connector

I have one of these. Super helpful, especially when travelling.

Thanks for this windrip. Although I already have an official Skyminer, you've inspired me to build my own DIY miner as well. Gonna go with something like this for the power supply plus the USB adapter cables.
Thanks a ton for the links. Is the difference in wattage particularly important? Since I don't know much about chargers yet, I assuming both the 50W and 25W will work generally the same as long as the amp amount is similar.
Out of curiosity, have you had any experience with Sabrent chargers like this one? https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Family-Sized-Charger-Technology-AX-TPCS/dp/B00OJ79UK6?ie=UTF8&keywords=sabrent&qid=1456884551&ref_=sr_1_4&sr=8-4
I bought a 10 port when I first began my farm and thinking of investing in a second one. Do you think the watt and amp is balanced enough for use?
This was one of my better purchases.
I just bought a 10 port usb and a timer that's seems to be the most recommended.

.
this kind of information of watts and volts just goes over my head.
I also plan on buying another surge protector.
