I use the Sakura 30062 6-Piece Pigma Micron Ink Pen which has worked well for me.

I came across it through this thread if you wanted more suggestions.

I know nothing about kids RE: shoes and stuff, but as for the pens, a good Micron pen set is probably a good option! I'm more into lettering but I know that cartoonists use these as well.

Looks like a Sakura Micron. They sell them pretty much everywhere. My box full are from Joann but I've gotten them from Amazon in the past, too, I think.

This is probably a 1 or 2.

Sakura Pigma Micron Pen. Archival, acid free, and comes in different sizes. The link is for a set but you can get them individually. Your local art supply store should also carry them. Copic also makes similar pens.

Another option. Use a technical pen and India ink. Some people use the ink from empty black pigment ink cartridges that way the ink that is used for writing has the same properties as the print. The shellac in India ink will provide a pretty durable coating. This is very good for the back of RC papers. It can take some time to dry so be careful not to smudge it if writing quickly.

Dude, seriously, it's time to upgrade. Trust me, you're gonna fucking love these.

u/MrAristo · 3 pointsr/notebooks

Now this is interesting:

> The international standard for "permanent" paper is ISO 9706 and for "archival" paper, the standard is ISO 11108.

It sounds like what you're wanting to do would be best suited with cotton rag paper(a smaller subset of the ISO 11108 paper?), which I would think is even harder to find than the already difficult ISO 9706 paper.

But all this raises another question for me: What medium are you using to write on these pages? Pencil ranging from 9H to H so the graphite doesn't smear over time? Or a pen like the Pigma Micron, which claims to have Archival Ink? A fountain pen with specialized pigment-ink from a reliable/honest distributor?

Are you planning on replicating the Journal so there are multiple copies in the hands of your children/grandchild to further prevent it from being lost to the future Family?

Any specific plans on storage for the book? A dehumidifier, a small dry cooler, or just on a shelf out of the sunlight?

You have hit my interest and curiosity dead-center on the bulls-eye, as I have been slowly looking into the idea of putting together a Family History tome (encompassing the names of family members, past residences, life accomplishments, traditions, generational reflections, etc) that could be passed on for several generations.

What your project is reminding me of the most is a Silva Rerum, especially if you had a couple hundred pages (like your 500 page idea) for future generations.

You've now offered more of a temptation for me to register a MassDrop account than anything previously in /r/MassDrop...I guess I need to break down and register.

u/Hooblar · 2 pointsr/EDC

Ever look into getting something more like a pigment pen? I admit, I'm a Pilot G2 guy myself so I am interested in seeing what recommendations there.

Something like the Staedtler or Sakura is what I am referring to. They have a bit more bleed-through if you are writing on standard A4 paper, but when I've had the pleasure of using those types of instruments I am never disappointed.

u/Firespray · 2 pointsr/starwarscollecting

Just acrylic paint and some fine detail brushes. I use a combination of Testors Model Master and Vallejo acrylics. Harrop's tutorial vid on painting faces has a section where he goes over how he paints eyes in that I found very useful. It involves just painting the white in first and then using a very fine tip Micron pen, you just put a large black dot in the center of the eye. After that, then you go and carefully paint in whatever color the eye is supposed to be (you're just painting a slightly smaller dot over the black dot) to emulate the iris and then afterwards, painting another small white dot on top of that to simulate the highlight effect of an eye.

It takes a steady hand and some patience but it's fairly simple to do once you get the hang of it. I only recently started trying to paint eyes and faces on figures and it's taken a few tries to start getting the rhythm down.

Lately breakdance. I haven't kept up with practice lately because I've been busy studying and just being unmotivated, but I picked it up at a really difficult phase in my life, and it really serves as an amazing catharsis. You don't really choreo and just kind of go with where the music, the beat, and rhythm take you. You really get to showcase your creativity, and it leaves you so tired that afterwards you can't really think about the worries and thoughts that were stressing you out before you started dancing.

I also have started to draw more lately. I kind of just draw whatever's been on my mind recently, as boring as that sounds. If I see something really cool, I'll save it online if it's digital or in a special folder if it's physical as inspiration or references for later.

As for my reason for living, it's something that I've really struggled with these past few months. For the first contest I hosted on here, I asked people the same thing - what was their motivation for getting up and living each day. I feel like I'm still struggling to find that purpose, the point that keeps us going even though we all face the same end. For me, I think it really comes down to having a future family with my SO. I love children, and I'm really looking forward to raising children and having a family, a nice home, cute pets. It's hard sometimes because it feels like it's so abstract and far away, but I'm just going to have to push through and remind myself that I get a day closer every day. :)

I'd really like this pen set for inking. The timing would be great since I'm going to be taking a drawing class at university for the first time, and I'd love to do ink + marker work. :) Right now it's under $10, though I've sometimes seen the price go a little above $10. If it's above $10, then just surprise me!

Thanks for the contest! Emmacat the destroyer just because. :P

Sakura Pigma Micron pens! Unfortunately they only come in black (and some other colours, but nothing too useful for Gunpla), but the quality is indisputable. You can probably find them in any hobby/arts/crafts store. The 02 or 01 is probably the only size you'd need.

I've had several folks asking about my process for drawing old school, side scroll dungeons, so here's a step-by-step guide.

The pens listed below each thumbnail are the pens I used to create that particular image. Each is about $2 US, and they are available at any hobby/art store. While I prefer Micron Pens as pictures, the nib size is the most important part.

The paper is in a Moleskine journal which range in price but average around $15 US.

For what it's worth, I think the LT1917 has become a standard because the original Bullet Journal web page sells them under their brand.

As mentioned here, LT1917 is 80gsm, which is relatively thin and makes a lot of pens bleed through and ghost. For more information about bleeding, ghosting, and general comparison between notebooks I recommend watching Which Notebook is the Best for Bullet Journaling?! (skip to 11:00 to see the comparison chart). I prefer Scribbles That Matter which is thicker (100gsm) and feels smoother to write on. My next purchase will probably be a Midori with 120gsm or a Rhodia to try them out.

One of the core principals of Bullet Journalism is that there are no hard rules. While it comes with some guidelines, you are free to use it however you see fit. Which means that there are no predefined pages. So for the most part you are going to be drawing the layouts. And this is why a Dotted paper helps because you can use the dots to draw your own layouts. You can checkout Pinterest for inspiration. The community uses the term "spreads" to signify two-page layouts used for all sorts of things.

As for pens, many recommend the Sakura Pigma Micron for good reason. While I use them for more "serious" work, when it comes to EDC I would highly recommend the Muji 0.38mm Fine Point Gel Pens. Unlike the Microns, they are not felt tip (which is why I wouldn't use them for EDC) but very sharp ball point pen with great consistency. A lot of people swear by the Pilot G2 0.38mm Ultra Fine Point but personally I wasn't pleased with them.

Finally, regarding the things you want to track, as I mentioned earlier, you can simply define the layouts of each page and track whatever you wish. A lot of the spreads you see from the community are really intricate. You can find a variety of them from very crazy daily layouts to minimal ones. It's all up to you.

Having said that, if drawing your own layouts daily seems like a lot of work (a lot of people actually spend a few hours planning them beforehand), then you might want to consider a more traditional Planner instead. As mentioned ITT, the Nomadic Planner has good paper (125gsm), weekly and monthly pages as well as lined and blanks for notes and the rest.

There is a whole universe of things to consider (and I'm more than happy to geek out about it), but I'd say just start with whatever. Don't think about it too much. Most of the negatives are personal, so while LT1917 doesn't work for some, it might for you. You'll figure things out as you go.

My secret to the stitches and writing on the scroll are 0.5 micron pens:

http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30062-6-Piece-Pigma-Micron/dp/B0008G8G8Y

I have a pretty strict time budget for painting and these help so much with detail work and eyeballs.

u/zuron54 · 2 pointsr/minipainting

I have also used micron pens in the past the smallest size can be used for all kinds of small details. Alternatively, you could focus on miniatures without eyes or use the yellow eye for evil creatures.

u/MikeRLea · 2 pointsr/Inktober

Thank you so much! That means a lot to me!
This is actually all digital, done in procreate on the iPad Pro:
I built a custom tones paper texture, and I use a combination of the “technical pen” brush and the “finepoint pen” brush for the line work. For the washes I use different combinations of the “water” brushes on an overlay layer at 50% opacity

When I do this sort of thing on paper I use these pens:

Sakura Pigma 30062 Micron Blister Card Ink Pen Set, Black, Ass't Point Sizes 6CT Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0008G8G8Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_A5QVBb8MPA212

This would probably be a good paper to use:

And these kinds of inks:

Daler-Rowney F.W. Acrylic Ink 1 oz Bottle - White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004O7G1FI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_c6QVBbFM5P9ZB

Here's my entry. It was done in Photoshop and pretty much all digital, save for some textures I scanned. :)
As far as pen recommendations go, it sort of depends on price. If you can afford them, I definitely recommend Rapidograph pens.
Most of my class used them when I was in college, and they work absolutely amazingly. They're refillable so much cheaper than rebuying pens in the long run. If you don't want to spend so much at once, I would suggest staying with Micron. They're what I used before I got some Rapidographs and they worked fairly well... I just can't get past the crispness of the Rapidographs!!!

I have two types of pens that I use. The first is the Pilot V5 which is a gel ball point pen http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Precise-Stick-Rolling-Extra/dp/B00006IEBI

The second type is Sakura Micron pens which an assorted set can be found here http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30062-6-Piece-Pigma-Micron/dp/B0008G8G8Y/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370448156&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=macron+pen

Hope this helps and good luck!

Do you mean that you want to learn more about line art? Because Micron is just a branding that Sakura uses for their fine line pens. You can buy a pack of like 6 Sakura Pigma Micron pens in sizes ranging from very fine to thick, there's also a brush, chisel, and a bullet point in other packs. I would just get a pack of the regular Pigma Microns and experiment by lining some old graphite drawings. Generally, you use the finer tips (.005) for fine detail and the thicker tips (.08) for outlining.

I find the .005 to be very delicate and I rarely use it because I'm heavy handed and will crush the tip in a matter of minutes, I stick with the .02, .03, and .05. If you're looking to fill in large spaces use a Sakura brush pen, or better yet, a Pentel Brush pen.

u/rose_among_bones · 2 pointsr/ArtCrit

Is this done with only one pen? I would say get pens with different widths. Personally I like sakuras micron pens
Get them on amazon-

I would also consider adding more stippling on the steps..

I'm going with an archival ink pen.

How long did it take them to make and ship your guestbook? I'm getting close on time.

u/Palivizumab · 1 pointr/pics

They varied in length, most of them are an hour or two, but that one that's a page spread took about 15 hours over a few days.

I would recommend Pigma Microns. They are a great balance between price and performance. Here's an Amazon link: http://amzn.com/B0008G8G8Y

And here's a link to a video review I did on them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbklGdPNahU

Let me know if you have any other questions!

I use these for all my panel lining, but I found what makes a huge difference is right after I do a line, I use a q-tip to smooth it all out, and wipe away excess, plus is you do it right, it adds a very subtle shading.

I would start with a Black Ink set, as far as color . . . do you have a BLICK Art store near you? If so you can go there and explore all of their offerings, from the thickness to the array of color, the look of the medium and the way you hold it . . . if not, this is a good start.

Here's the eye technique that's been most useful to me thus far:

http://www.reapermini.com/TheCraft/12

Also, the cheat mode for the iris of the eye is:

http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30062-6-Piece-Pigma-Micron/dp/B0008G8G8Y/ref=pd_bxgy_ac_text_y

I find the pens much easier to control than a brush, plus you can adjust the size of the iris easily.

I use a set of these for drawing, sometimes writing. They are great. (Sakura Pigma Micron Pens)

i don't know how you feel about felt-tip pens but unless it's a cheap-o BIC for fast notes, I can't use anything else. My favorite are the Pigma Micron which go down to .2 mm (too fine for me but you seem to get a kick out of fine lines). They're great because they put down ink precisely where you want it, no spreading, no smudging, and you get and outstanding line everytime. I get pretty excited about them...

u/kittehmew · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

We both have Micron Pens on our list~ Total match.. Mine is on my Art stuff list. They really are awesome markers.

Thanks for the contest~

u/MacDaddiO · 1 pointr/notebooks

So with my Leuchtturm notebooks, I've had ghosting occur with some of my pens (G2, specifically) or it doesn't dry fast enough and smudges (with my Pentel hybrid technica 04). With my Sakura Micron pens, the Leuchtturm seems to dry quickly enough that I don't smudge it, but there is still some ghosting.

I did a small corner test in my Leuchtturm notebook I use for work and regular sharpies definitely bleed through. Sharpie pens have some ghosting. I have to say, I'm not thrilled with my Leuchtturm. I bought it because my mokeskine was driving me insane with how bad the paper is.

Edit- I've used the Rhodia dot pad to practice my handwriting, and I'm obsessed with it. But I haven't had the chance to try the web notebooks they have. I promised my significant other that I wouldn't buy more notebooks until I use up the ones I have.

u/Deathypus · 1 pointr/JerryMapping

If you are referring to the pens, I use Pigma Microns, and I bet most people here can vouch that they work well. You can find them on amazon or at an art store or something. If you want some variance in the width of the lines, I would say get something like these. Happy mapping :)

u/GrlwithDragonShihTzu · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Thank you for the contest! Have you tried zentangling? If not... I would suggest zentangle supplies!

An excellent book for newbies is "One Zentangle a Day: a Six Wek Course in Creative Drawing for Relaxation, Inspiration, and Fun." I am doing this now to ramp up my self care routine, and I'm surprised it's so pleasing to the brain!

You'll also need some Artist "tiles" of gorgeous card stock and either a fine tipped sharpie or some drawing pens along with a pencil to get started.

Zentangles are abstract designs created with repetitive patterns. These can help promote mindfulness, intuitive thinking, empowerment, and a sense of well-being. Sort of a similar idea to adult coloring books... but instead of coloring in someone else's patterns, you make your own designs- following a series of simple steps. It's not for artists- so simple, anyone can do it, and you do not use an eraser, because there are no mistakes. I tried zentangling when I was in search of more ways to self soothe anxiety, and you can read what Physchology Today thinks of Zentangling. 💜

They look like Sakura Mircons. The beige body + metal tip is very distinct.

Coming along nicely. I recommend skipping the sharpies and getting s few of these instead:

Microns like this in a moleskin notebook. Moleskins are expensive but I think it's a nice investment.

u/dehehn · 1 pointr/Art

I highly recommend trying out Micron Pens if you haven't, they go on super smooth and dry very quickly so you get minimal smudging.

u/ab2g · 1 pointr/Art

For drawings like these, you should vary the thickness of your lines more. Using different values for your lines will help your drawings pop. My friend, who is an accomplished artist, does a lot of drawings like these, here is a link to a gallery of some of his drawings that are similar to yours. Jack Graves III . Be sure to click the thumbnails for a full size view.

You should seriously consider getting a pack of art pens. They will help you immensely with this, and they are worth the less than $20 investment. Here are three to browse on Amazon. Prismacolor, Faber-Castell, and Sakura Micron Pens.

u/SpaceSuitFurry · 1 pointr/ArtFundamentals

My microns are near a dear to me, and a lethal weapon for inking. Here’s a 6 pack for less than 10$. Go look at any artist on YouTube, they all use microns at some time or another

So I got these following beginners guide from the wiki. But when I started using them, the ink began to clump up and not draw lines but it appeared like ink blotches. Has this happened to anyone? Am I doing my lining incorrectly?
