I switched over to reading books on my phone and never looked back. Got about 600 of them now, including much of my dead-tree library. And since I got an extended battery for my phone, I've yet to have to stop reading for lack of juice. Calibre can automatically sync between the desktop and phone library, too. The archive gets backup up offsite automatically right alongside all my photos, so no hard drive crash is going to leave me without.
As far as I can tell (using Ampere,) the S4 maxes out at drawing 1.2 amps/hour no matter what charger I use.
You might also try an extended battery.
