You don't. Most if not all of the SD cards advertised as 1-2TB are fake, being small capacity cards that had their firmware hacked to show a spoofed high capacity.

Basic rule of thumb is, if you've never heard of the brand making the card, don't buy it. Stick to Kingston, PNY, Samsung, MiniMicro, SanDisk and other well-known, reputable brands.

Here is a highly reviewed 512GB micro SD from Samsung. $90, 4.5/5 stars in reviews.

400GB micro SD from SanDisk, $52, 4.5/5 stars.

That's more than I'd ever need on a phone. My hard storage on my desktop is 2TB, and I hardly fill that up even with lots of films.

u/IForgotMyPasswordGrr · 42 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You can already buy them stupid cheap. I have two SanDisk 256GB cards I got for $33 each. One is in my Switch. The other is in a drawer until I figure out what to use it for. Maybe my PSP.

Amazon had the 400GB card on sale the other day for $46

The 512GB card was on sale yesterday for $57.

Anything small, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, 64GB can be had for like $16 or less.

128GB for like $25

SanDisk Ultra 200GB microSDXC UHS-I Card - $29.21 (26% off)

  • $0.15/GB

    SanDisk Ultra 400GB microSDXC UHS-I Card - $62.30 (34% off)

  • $0.16/GB
  • 100MB/s read speed (real world testing closer to 85MB/s)

Both are near Black Friday value per GB. The majority of "all digital games" Switch owners should be happy with the 200GB. Those with a mix of physical and digital are usually fine with 128GB. But if you need a new card the 200GB is worth considering at only $8 more.

The Switch only supports up to 104MB/s max read speed. Eurogamer found only a 0.3 second load time difference between a 30MB/s card and a 90MB/s card. For most users you want to consider capacity (how much do you need) and value (cost per GB), not speed.

^Edit: ^Keep ^in ^mind

When i first bought it, it was 200 dollars and the reviews are alot of recommended, now i look at it and price has dropped, be wary of it though now that the reviews went from being solid 4-5 star reviews to a mixed of negative and positive reviews claiming either the cards they recieve are fake/DOA and they had to contact amazon and the seller to be reimbursed/ given a replacement card that was authetic, and others claim that they got a good card right off the bat.

If you do buy this card, make sure to look online to see how to find out if you have a fake card or not.

Just trying to look out for you guys

u/AL2009man · 16 pointsr/Games

considering SanDisk now sells 400GB, I think Nintendo made a right move.

Edit: just checked and I currently have the 200gb version of this card and I did a lot of research before I bought it and it works fine. You need to watch out for fakes and there was a program I used to load data and remove data to make sure it was ok when I first got it.

U1 guarantees a minimum sequential write speed of 10 MB/s - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secure_Digital#Speed_class_rating

It may be faster than that, but it's probably not faster than 30 MB/s, because then they'd mark it U3

I've got this one, moving to internal storage has drastically reduced road times for Doom, Wolfenstein 2, and Fortnite in comparison to the SD card, and Dooms frame rate was way more stable. I'm stuck at work so I can't personally test this, but it's well known in the Switch community that internal storage is for intense games

A 400GB Sandisk is $52.99 if you want something cheaper or don't have a prime card.

u/DaGeek247 · 4 pointsr/LinusTechTips

This will end up costing you 2,500$ + the 25$ card. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B074RNRM2B/ A similar sized ssd will cost 1,500$.

But we can take this further. There are 512GB capacity MicroSD cards. This will end up costing 3,000$ for the sd cards, and net you a whopping 5TB setup. Plus 25$ for the card. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00NP699ZI/

There are no commercially available 5TB SSDs. Well, it might exist but i could not find one for sale. https://pcpartpicker.com/products/internal-hard-drive/#t=0&sort=ppgb&page=1&S=4000000,12000000

This card allows you to have a 5TB single card solid state setup, before anyone else.

So I'm using a very full 64GB MicroSD card and bought a 400 GB replacement. Now, what is the best way to backup your things?

Do I connect and transfer the old card contents from Micro SD card, to my PC. Then format my new 400GB Micro and then put the data back onto the 400GB?

Do I need to use any Cloud features? Will I be losing anything?

This is what I bought btw. Is it a good one? (19K 4 1/2 Stars)

u/TemptedTemplar · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

As big as you want to pay for.

256GB go for ~$36

400GB are under $65 for the first time outside of a blackfriday sale.

512GB are coming down in price, and a 1TB card is launching later this year.

Edit: a MAJORITY of Switch titles are 10GB or less. Lots of 1GB or less games. Nearly all AAA third party titles however, are 15GB or more. With the biggest titles coming in at 25GB to 32GB each.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you really want to go all out there are good 512 GBs for about $100. But there are also 400 GBs under $70 now, giving more bang for buck.

u/M0UL · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

if you are planing to fully digital then get a 400 gb card instead.

the current microsd cards spec goes to 2tb (suported by the switch). the bigest cards available are 1tb. those are way to expensive now. i think the current sweetspot for price vs size is 400 gb.

u/unvaluablespace · 4 pointsr/Surface

I got the 549 s6 from Amazon with the 50 dollar gift card. I definitely count that 50 as a further discount to $500 as i already spent it.

So a $500 s6 128gb/6gb new or a $385 s5e 128gb/6gb ram renewed

The micro sd card barely counts as you could get a 400gb card with that gift card

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074RNRM2B/ref=twister_B07B3MFBHY?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

115 dollars for new product and 3x the performance is a no brainier for me. Longevity is much much better on the s6

If you absolutely can't afford the extra cash then the s5e will do you well but the s6 is amazing for the price

u/Lorben · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You can get 1TB cards but they'll cost you more than the Switch.

A 400GB Sandisk Ultra is the best option in my opinion. The Switch's read speed tops out at 100MB/s so you don't gain anything from buying a faster card. The 400GB card has the lowest cost per GB out of the Sandisk Ultra line at 13.5 cents per GB.

I think most of your questions depend on how you plan to use your Switch. For me, 99.9% of the time I use it in handheld mode, so accessories important for my usage are different than someone who primarily uses it in docked mode.

u/ccai · 2 pointsr/Android

They're surprisingly cheap at $105. The best thing about it is that it's not an upgrade locked to one single device, instead if you change phones to another device with an SD card slot you can keep that 400gb instead of wasting more money on another crazy storage upgrade (obviously assuming your new phone supports it as well).

Sure, it's not as quick as internal storage, but you can still use the internal storage for anything that requires those speeds like 4k recording at the highest quality and transfer them over the SD card upon completion to make room for new content as playback doesn't require nearly as much bandwidth.

u/Zeke_Z · 2 pointsr/photography

That's one of the best replies I have gotten on Reddit! Thank you for the detail! That car analogy is extremely accurate. Can confirm : dad's face when I told him, ha ha!

I agree with you on the filmmaker's kit, I don't know if I would be buying those exact things anyway.

That's sad about the bundles, but I guess that makes sense and I'm glad I know. So it would be better to buy the accessories separately, and just a get a camera/lens combo from amazon?

Should I get accessories all through Nikon or are there some reputable third parties?
I know I will need a couple batteries, a flash, carrying case, a couple filters, mic, and an XQD card. XQD cards are mandatory I would imagine, especially for 4k and high FPS photo shooting, but do I need 2? Can I use something like this for the second card slot? I'm gonna say that this card is a definitely no go, ha ha!

Based on what I want to do with this camera from above, what three lenses would you recommend starting out? Seems like a $1000 lens on a D7500 would take better photos than a $250 lens on a D850, so I won't cry in USD when I see your response and each lens is between $600 and $2000. I'd say a landscape lens, a macro lens, and a zoom lens are the type I would start with.

Thanks again for your reply and your time!

u/GamerNebulae · 2 pointsr/ProgrammerHumor

Not sure why you were downvoted, but this solution works.

It also depends on the SDHC card you're using. I had an older class 10 card I thought was fast enough, but Spotify was acting slow AF just like your video. I upgraded to a newer class 10 card with an "A1" specification and it now works just as fast as having the storage on the phone itself. This is the card

Also to sanity check:

  2. I will buy this SD card for lasting pleasure: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074RNRM2B/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

You really only need one unless you're going to go all fancy and record your own POV and then have one pointing at you to cut in from, or swap between PIP views. Also for MicroSD cards, go big or go home. A 400GB Class 10 MicroSDXC card is only, what, $50 nowadays. Get that. It'll hold all your stuff forever and ever, so if you go for a long weekend ride and record every second, you won't need to dump your footage along the way.

I found that I never have the time for so much post-processing of the videos. Editing videos is time consuming. My time is a premium, and ask me if I'd rather sit and edit, or go ride? =) So, one chin-mounted camera does what I need.

I can highly recommend the Motoradd's mounts for helmet chin mounting, by the way. They stand strongly behind their products, too, I managed to break one and they had another to my doorstep for free within a week.

u/LizardWizardXenos · 1 pointr/SmashBrosUltimate

From looking around the internet for a few minutes, the best I could find is that the DLC size is really small. Like less than 5MB per fighter pack. You could get Smash digitally (a little more than 14GB) and all the DLC and still have plenty of room on the internal memory on the Switch. Of course, if you plan to buy more games digitally, I recommend getting a micro SD card. I have this one myself (though I admit it might be a little overboard).

u/ClassicUncleJessie · 1 pointr/dreamcast

I'm using 390GB/400GB.

3 times I just tested the time it took from pressing the power button, to arriving at the GDMenu screen. It was reliably 16 seconds each time.

This is the SD card I'm using.

Do you have a link to this? The biggest microsd card I've seen is 400gb.

> It seems to me that these two technologies should merge. There should
> be a very simple word set to handle storage on a microsd card.

Since you want to stick with ANS, this already exists. Raw access can be
managed by the block word set[1] and access to the file system can be
managed via the file-access word set[2].

> The interface has 8 terminals so one needs a controller with 8 spare

Which is impressive, but such a machine will be very expensive. Just
taking a quick look, the 400gb microsd card I know of sells for around
$250[3]. At that point I'd rather invest in a smaller amount of storage
and get a more capable processor and a wifi module[4]. With that I could
cache relevant data locally and have access to as much storage as I want
by using a remote server.

I think there is a 1TB microSD card available, but it's absurdly expensive and not worth it for its price point. Most people go with 256GB, 400GB, or 512GB.

You don't need to use a Nintendo branded microSD card. In fact, you're literally just paying for the branding and cool looking card (that you don't even look at anyways because it's in your Switch 100% of the time). A better thing to do is get a 400GB one for $50 USD on Amazon..

As far as I know, 1TB Sd Cards are experimental yet (SanDisk sells a 400gb MicroSD card at max). So I deduce that it's a fake SD card, it only SHOWS 1TB, but in reality it might not even save 1 megabyte without corrupting everything in it, or it might hold more real capacity, there is programs to test it in a computer, but I wouldn't trust a fake SD Card anyways, it might corrupt your data.

If you want a real massive sd card here is the 400gb I talk about, But I'm not sure if the Sd Card reader in your kobo would be able to handle it safely.

I have a Viofo Compact A119 V2 which is front cam only. I use this in my work truck with it powered by the cigarette lighter socket. Turns on and off with the truck. Does everything I need it to do and the video quality is great. I bought the CPL filter for it as well, to lessen the interior reflection. The dashcam’s $96 I think, filter was like $10. Highly recommend. Easy to self install as well, which I did.

My personal car I have a Street Guardian SG9663DCPRO. This is a front and rear cam. This is pricier, it was about $280, and I bought the hardwire kit for it as well which was another $30. The front cam model is very similar to the A119 V2, they’re practically the same except for a few extra ports on this model. Installation is a bit more involved on this one, but there are YouTube vids you can watch that make it easy. Also depends on your car. FYI the cables are pretty thick, except for the external GPS cord. I was still able to hide them all, but again this depends on the vehicle you’d be installing it in. Video quality is great on this as well, crystal clear picture and readability. This model comes with a lot of extra items and whatnot, where the Viofo is very basic and just the essentials. I highly recommend the SG as well.

For both cams I have the highest possible card it can take, which is 128gb for the Viofo and 400gb for the Street Guardian. You can get these pretty cheap on Amazon, they go on sale very often.

If you have any questions feel free to ask, I’ll answer to the best of my knowledge.

u/dirkadirka666 · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

I was able to very recently pick up a 512GB Micro SD Card for $89, which was a worthwhile investment for me because my digital library has expanded greatly since I got my switch at launch (I’m at about 90 games now, with I think 16 physical)

However, I also see that this 400GB Micro SD Card is on sale for $56.99 right now. If you don’t think the extra $32 is worth the extra 112GB (I don’t blame you) then that’s an absolute steal. Prices on Micro SD cards have dropped by an average of over 30% in the last month by my estimate.

I will say you probably don’t want to get a “phone case” type case for your switch due to the fact that you need to dock it. Invest in a good Tempered Glass Screen Protector , and get a good Carrying Case . I use and highly recommend the ones linked. The carrying case is a perfect fit for the switch without holding the joycons too tightly; it straps the switch in with velcro. The 12 game cart capacity and the elastic cart holders is also the best solution I’ve seen in any case. I am able to put joycon straps and headphones in the little pocket without worrying about anything hitting the switch, since the game cart flap is soft on the back and acts as a barrier between the two. The tempered glass screen protector has lasted me two years without a scratch.

EDIT: as a further note, the theoretical limit to the switch’s SD capacity is 4TB but micro SD cards only go up to 1TB at the time of writing, and those cost $449

PSV games are anywhere between 0.5-3GiB in size, so 20 games would take at most 60GiB. PSP games are usually 0.1-1.5GiB in size. 64GB sd card is 59.6GiB in size, so it's really cutting it for your requirements. You might be better off with a 128GB card.

Btw, sd cards dropped in price by a lot in the last 7 months, 128GB card used to cost 40USD a year ago (and 80USD a year before that), but now they are just 20USD. I have had good experience with these Samsung 64/128/256GB cards and this 400GB SanDisk card. Make sure the sd cards you get are not fake sd cards, check these two videos.

Going to try to collect my thoughts on this whole deal as I read through the comments and will edit with time.

  1. There are many games coming out that have already been announced but aren't on the eligible game list. It makes me worried if I buy these vouchers if I am going to be able to get the games I want. For instance:

  • Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night

  • Dragon Quest: Builders 2

  • Dragon Quest XI

  • Pokemon Sword and Shield

  • Animal Crossing

  • The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening

  • My Friend Pedro

Not sure if its due to no solid announcements dates or some of the games may release sub $60.

edit: You can see the current list HERE. The list is incomplete. You will notice Super Smash Brothers Ultimate was featured in the trailer, but isn't on the list yet. It, as well as others, will be added in the future.

  1. Super Mario Maker 2 has an online 12 month bundle for just $69.99. Thats $10 for 12 months when its usually $20. I probably can't use a voucher on that bundle knowing Nintendo. So if I wanted the bundle, I could pay for it and then use the 2 vouchers on something, but if there is nothing I am interested in I just wasted $100 on vouchers that expire.

edit: others are also stating that you cannot use the voucher on the bundle.

  2. These vouchers expire a year after the date of purchase. Meaning if I buy them today, a game could release in July of 2019 and I wouldn't be able to redeem the voucher. The voucher purchase offer expires July 31, so I am going to wait as long as possible to purchase.

  3. Are multiple vouchers able to be purchased? Or is it only one time purchase only?

edit: it appears someone has already ordered 6 vouchers for himself, so multiple can be purchased.

  4. Are the vouchers giftable?

    edit: Non-transferrable.

  5. Digital games are taking up a lot of space on my microSD card. Are these available to use for physical cartridges?

edit: the vouchers cannot be used for physical copies of the game.

If you are running out of space, there are many options available. Its a bit pricey, but the 1TB SD card is about to be released and is available for preorder at $449.99 on B&HPhoto

The 400GB version is currently available on B&HPhoto and Amazon for $56.99

And you can usually find 128's for $20-30 anywhere.

> You wouldn't target the merchant for the double spend.

Yes, but you don't understand me here. The merchants self-interest is it to not accept anything else then payments though there own node or there choosen and trusted nodes. Nodes that are known for that they are honest miners. Because they can be sure it will get confimed in the blockchain. Because if they exclude any other node like your set up double spend node, they just lose money by allowing potential double spend-0conf txs. So, it's not clever for them to allow all nodes.
If you sending double spends to other nodes that are not known to be honest miners, they easily don't accept your payment after all.
That's why people are trusting Bitpay or recently those new Coinbase Widgets as payments. -> trusted nodes.

I totally see why someone gets the impression it wouldn't be "censorship resistant" anymore, if SM get excluded.
The answer is simple: You'll have to stick to the "consensus" rules. Be a honest miner and the network and all txs will be censorship resistant. If the network detects that your are attempting double spends (two outputs at the same time), you'll get rejected. This is not censorship. Just make one tx after another. Should be easy for a machine to detect.

Selfish mining always create a fork until they release the longer chain to the network.

And i think if you are a full node miner. Memory space isn't really the issue here: https://www.amazon.com/Sandisk-Ultra-400GB-Adapter-SDSQUAR-400G-GN6MA/dp/B074RNRM2B/ref=sr_1_sc_1/135-6091595-2403802?ie=UTF8&qid=1523491645&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=sdd+400gb

400GB MicroSS costs $200 TODAY!
With the volatility of Cryptocurrencies, you will be definitely able to pay for such things with no hassle.

You need a good machine to mine profitable and have cheap electricity sources as well. This was always the case.

Data memory gets cheaper and cheaper. Until we have full 1GB blocks everyday, we will have 1TB MicroSDs for $50. I promise you that. Cryptocurrencies will force to form the electronic industry. We already seeing that at the moment with Intel and Samsung buliding/planning more efficient ASICs equipment than Bitmain. Soon we will have artificial intelligence mining cryptocurrencies. Mining is competition. Mining is capitalism. That's the cold truth. - You can't mine bitcoin profitable with our old C64.
The only real need is that mining needs to be more energy efficient/energyconsuming.

EDIT: I read the statement "Trusting miners makes PoW pointless". - I really can't see how this is the case. Trusting miners on top of PoW looks like the better solution for me than just only trust PoW. - maybe you can explain that statement to me futher.
