I used to have the same USB drive as you, and it also gave me the same error message. Unfortunately, USB drives aren't really meant for constant re-writing, and wear out pretty quickly. What you need is a high endurance microSD card and USB adapter. The "high endurance" cards are designed specifically for dashcams and are made to handle constant re-writing. After upgrading to the high endurance card, I have perfect quality videos with no more error messages.

I'm pretty sure it's not possible to format drives from an iPad or iPhone. I use GUIFormat on Windows to format drives to FAT32.

word of advice. If the built in dashcam is cyclic recording to that usb, you should probably opt for a high endurance SD card and an adapter.

If it only dumps a file to it when you hit save, USB stick would be fine.

Look on the stick and see if theres a folder with a bunch of video files that you didnt save, and/or if the stick is constantly full when you plug it into your computer. If its full, its cyclic recording, and will wear out quickly.

Would this USB/MicroSD reader work for what you’re suggesting?

Having issues with my USB drive for the dashcam. I have two Model 3s, both are SR+, one with FSD and one without. I originally ordered two of these (Samsung 256GB Flash drive) as I saw it recommended on this subreddit. After one of the most recent software updates, both cars started saying that the write speed was too slow. Unplugging and plugging the flash drive back in was a temporary workaround, but after a few minutes or hours the error message would come back, and I confirmed that nothing was being recorded to the drive when the error message was being displayed.

After doing additional research, I ordered this (SanDisk MobileMate microSD card reader) and this (SanDisk 256GB high endurance MicroSD card, specifically advertised for usage with dash cams). It worked fine for me for about 10 days, and then my car simply stopped recognizing it. I plugged it into my computer and confirmed there was nothing wrong with it, it still had all my sentry mode recordings up until November 15th, and then nothing. I ultimately decided to reformat the card again (using Disk Utility on Mac, using FAT) and still the car will not recognize it. I tried it on the other Model 3 and it also does not recognize it, so either Tesla did something again in the most recent software update, or something went wrong with the drive? Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

That makes sense, also, my motherboard has an internal USB port, I'm thinking of using this combo for the ESXI System install.

I use a cable exactly like that one and am having (mostly) zero issues so I don't think it's the cable itself. I am a firm believer that even via OTG any given flash stick or (micro) SD card is still hit or miss. I have four different microSD cards and several different adapters & I said "(mostly)" because my 4, 16, and 128 GB cards all work with every adapter.... but my 200GB card does not work with ANY of the adapters, at all. It just boots to stock despite the fact there's nothing wrong with that specific card.

All in all, I'd chalk the slowdown to either 1.) not enough power from whatever power source you are using, 2). a bad/corrupted/incompatible microSD card, 3.) a bad microSD reader/adapter, 4.) corrupt game files, or 5.) any combination of 1-4. I very much doubt it's the cable, but as I said... I think regardless of OTG the entire thing is STILL very finicky and picky. OTG does not equate guaranteed compatibility & I think too many people are under the assumption that it does - then are surprised when their stick or card doesn't work.

i got the message saying my USB drive drive is too slow only after 3 months and need something new. Anyone have better luck with the setup i linked below? Saw someone on this sub recommend it and hoping this can last longer

Whoops, looks like my adapter is indeed Sandisk but the card I got was actually Samsung. Again, haven’t had these in long enough to speak to longevity, but they’ve been working well in the short term.

Yes, I've read a lot of reports from people complaining about how their USB drive gets 'hot to the touch' when either in hot weather or due to Sentry Mode. Don't forget the car records all 3 streams simultaneously even while driving.

I would use it (and built-in MicroSD) mostly for storage, Steam has “move files” option to move a game to a different drive. If you want to run a game, it’s better to have it installed on built-in SSD.

Yes, they get hot, but not much hotter than CPU/SSD drive, I didn’t measure the temperature though, just don’t touch it.

Hey. I forgot to report back. I actually ended up getting this setup here . So that with the suggested micro sd card. That said, after a recent update I haven’t had issues with my prior setup either.

I think the issue was resolved by Tesla once they got enough reports of people complaining after V10 due to the included rear camera footage.

Had it since June and it's working great.

If it is a micro-sd card, try another SD adapter or a USB adapter.

If only the USB adapter works, the RT2600 SD card slot may be the culprit.

I was getting the too slow message to since V10, so I switched to this SD card and card reader and haven't had any issues.

Did some testing on my computer and found it was about 5 times faster than the Samsung thumb drive I had before.

If restarting the system doesn't help at all, then you may need one. Formatting is not a super quick process, so if they system is failing to do it properly, then you will have to step it.

Theyre also great for backing up your screen captures as you can pull them right off the Micro SD card.

So based on the feedback, I’m thinking both the options below should work well. Personally I’ll try the microsd option first but as a backup would try the ssd also

I currently have the ultra fit flash drives as well......Was using a cruzer fit as test drive for custom patched games before installing but now have a concern as the cruzer fit is designed like the ultra fit in the way it is plastic and just tossed out my test cruzer fit due to plastic breaking.
