Stay out of the sun. Apply maximum strength sun screen to the scars if you need to be outside. You can purchase silicone scar gel-- that is the stuff that works the best. BioOil, other creams have no value/do nothing, it's all placebo effect. I had plastic surgery and so I researched a ton into minimizing scars. My scars are barely visible.
Your scars are still red so they're still remodeling. That's a good sign, it means you can intervene and make sure they fade. Try that silicon scar gel--there's plenty on Amazon (http://www.amazon.ca/ScarAway-Treatment-Diminishing-Massaging-Applicator/dp/B004CCNAMW). Make sure you moisturize a lot: hydration is key. To be honest, I only recommend the bio oil because I've heard good things about it. If there isn't science to back it up, then I would skip it, TBH.
What about doing something like applying silicone sheets at night, and taking them off in the morning? They are pricey, so I see where that could eat up a lot of money, but if you cut the strips to be shorter and narrower, the product would last longer.
As for gels, this one looks relatively inexpensive and is from a good brand. I haven't tried it myself - I've only used drugstore gels, and they were all more pricey than that, unfortunately.
