Heya, I'm pretty much in the same situation, except i already bought mine. They sell running strollers, the key differences are: large tires, 3 wheels with the front one lockable or fixed (turning front wheel is an accident waiting to happen), height adjustable handle (this is important), handbrake will help in downhills, strap so the stroller wont escape if you fall, lightweight (mine is really really light so it requires very little effort to push)
If you can afford the Thule they're totally worth it. BOB Revolution is another great option. If you are unsure, you can find cheap ones as well about 100$-200$, but I wouldn't know by what name and brand they go in your area (companies get them from china and every company just orders a different logo for them)
But I heard some people run with everyday strollers and do fine. Whatever you use, they will wear down quickly so if you are serious about running íts a good idea to get a running specific stroller.
I would say its a good compromise, I'm sure the mother will appreciate the breaks and you can run all you want, at least my kid just falls asleep quite soon so it's not very difficult. But it slows you down a bit and you have to be a little careful so it definately isn't the same as running by yourself. Also for me the sense of freedom isnt there when I run with the stroller. So not for races but for everyday running its great.

We got this Schwinn jogger on prime day for $150. It has all the features of the more expensive joggers. There's no way I could justify $300+ for a stroller! However, I really wanted the fixed wheel style for safety, as well as the one-handed brake mechanism. So the Schwinn was perfect. I think there's also a double version.
