Magnetic phone mount like this or something similar based on the dash design.

u/TangoHotel04 · 15 pointsr/iphone

My iPhone 5 has just been sitting in its box collecting dust since it died unexpectedly a few years ago. I've always loved this phone for its color and have wanted to "display" it somehow. I decided to make it a stand for my iPhone 7. I traced the screen onto a sheet of peel and stick foam, cut it out, and stuck it to the screen (so it wouldn't slide around and scratch the screen). I use one of these in my truck, so I already had the plate on my phone. I purchased another one and stuck it on the iPhone 5 to hold my iPhone 7.
Edit: Here's a picture in Landscape

I bought so many in my time, but in the end I just love the magnetic ones. They're so clean, so fast, and so secure.

This is my setup:

This magnet car mount

Stick the magnet on the case not directly to the device, otherwise you won't be able to use wireless charge/nfc

The magnet is really strong, I recommend it to my friends & they're all happy, I use this setup for 2 years & I'm really happy with it.

In response to you and /u/StuckXJ, it looks like this mount. I have this one mounted on my windshield for my AP since it has a built in magnet and it works extremely well.

I saw this same setup posted here and got it immediately. Works very nicely and in the months I've had it, it's prompted many friends and family to get it for their own cars. Some links for those interested:

I use one of these mounted to the right of the radio in my 2015. Not sure if the dash is the same or not, though.

After going through tons of different ones I found that he magnetic one is the best. They have a sticker mount and a vent mount that actually stays snug to the vent. Try this out.

**Note make sure to mount it to the outside of the case. Over a year of use and no problems yet.

NA6 or NA8? I have a Scosche Magic mount in my NA6 right on top of the tombstone and it's great. Not sure how well it would work on the NA8 since the tombstone is curved.

u/delrazor · 2 pointsr/Nexus6P

Don't expect it at all. The body is aluminum and there's no real attraction to it.

I had the air-dock which used weak magnets along with a sticky surface, and it didn't hold well at all. I loved the magnetic usage though, and I am using the spigen rugged armor case, and ended up buying a magnetic mount on amazon.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00I608BJ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1453207580&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=scosche+magic+mount&dpPl=1&dpID=41r9va2IMEL&ref=plSrch

But if you want to keep your charger as a mount, you could buy just the thin metal plates they use here.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00I608BG6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1453207580&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=scosche+magic+mount&dpPl=1&dpID=41z8prHAZxL&ref=plSrch

With the large metal plate, attached to the interior of my case, the scoche magnet is nice and strong and I don't have issue with the phone slipping or sliding off.

Also, I had my reservations about losing wireless charging after using it everywhere with my n5, but I'll say that with the additional battery size and rapid charge being so quick, I never really have a need for wireless the way I used it to keep the phone always topped up before. Only had a few times where I needed to pop the phone on the charger for maybe half an hour to get more power for the day.

u/Gee_Golly · 2 pointsr/GooglePixel

I like the magnetic plate mounts. Something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8/

They also have those that attach via the air vent, or via the CD drive.

Throw it away and get his one:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PGJWYJ0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

I used this one which was stick on, and after a few days it would fall off, due to the excessive tearing weight since the phone was being held out away from the sticking surface.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

The first link is the type that sticks into a vent, and it holds amazingly well, I've never had it pull out accidentally.

$14.99 delivered if you have Amazon Prime. I stuck mine between the fan vents on the dash. Can see callers/songs etc without taking your eye off of the road.

u/presentingthefly · 2 pointsr/4Runner

I stuck this to the dash above the area with the clock which an ipad mini sits in perfectly. I then leaned the ipad back and marked where it touched the magnet mount which was bent about 70° and stuck the magnet plate to the back of the ipad. Simple as that. You cant see the clock anymore but I have an app for that as they say...

Is it this one? It looks pretty cool, but I don't put a case on my phone (I typically take pretty good care of them) and didn't want to stick a magnet on the back of it... esp since it has a textured back that prob wouldn't hold it very well.

This is how I am doing it;

  • Bluetooth Connection

  • Phone/Tablet Mount

  • Your choice of device.

I'm going to use an Android tablet connected to an iPhone hotspot. This allows me to use Android Auto, Google Maps, Ok Google, etc, hands free. The only thing I wont retain with be steering controls for changing tracks.

Magnetic car mount is where it's at. Anything else will turn into a headache sooner or later. I've been using this one for a couple years: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I608BJ8/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_lc9RAb7CY1M1C

I connect via Bluetooth using a Kinovo BTC-455 for media and phone audio through to my car stereo.

I mount with a Scosche magnetic dash mount.

My Tasker "car" profile checks for previously set variables to determine when the last time I was in the car and what I was last listening to, before either resuming playback or presenting me with options I can select using touch or voice. Volume levels then fade in over the next 5 seconds, and if my next calendar event has a location, maps will open with directions.

I do some other automation, but those are the high points.

This kind of mount. The proclip is rigid, so this gives it some adjustability.

The metal plate just goes between the phone and case (as long as your case is thin).

I will always recommend a magnetic mount. They're like $13, super sturdy, and wonderfully easy to just throw your phone onto. I use Scosche, personally. It's a goddamned game changer. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00I608BJ8?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

Your phone will always have a better nav with Google maps than a car manufacturer can pull off.

Your car should have Bluetooth tho.

It's been rock solid for years (the tank is higher than the phone so wind doesn't catch it) and it's not mounted to the handlebars where it can distract me or vibrate loose. My post history has pictures but I've never seen a Sportster with a tank mounted dash so you'd have to stick it on the paint.

For etiquette, I keep just about everything to a quick wave or beep-beep at most. If I happen to see some others, I usually just fall in line with them as far as our paths are the same. I ride in the back of the group and keep about the same amount of space the rest of the group has. If they ride side to side, I get as close as I feel comfortable (and that isn't side by side lol). If they're staggered, I stay staggered too. Stop lights are different. Pull right up next to them and give them a quick head nod or maybe a compliment lol

I've always like the Scosche magnetic car mounts for something simple: https://amzn.com/B00I608BJ8

The downside is that you stick a metal piece (comes with strong adhesive) to the back of your case (or phone) to use it. It works pretty well on curved backs, but I haven't yet tried it on my Nexus 6 yet.

I'm ordering more plates for mine now. The even offer white set of plates to match white phones.

I'm currently debating between an iOttie and this magnetic mount: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

I've heard iOttie's suction is really dang good and hard to pull off even if you wanted to take it off. But magnets are cool..

u/RuhaiHu · 1 pointr/WRX

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8/

They have a few varieties of mounts.

For the most part once I tighten it it stays. Though slowly it will come loose. At some point I will probably take some epoxy or something along that line and just permanently fix it in the position on want it. Probably when I break it from tightening or it wears too much to tighten.

It is held on by 3m tape.

I found that to be a good place to keep it out of the sun heat/ fan heat. Spot also cools off ok from AC. Also keeps my phone from blinding me when driving at night.

BIGGEST thing I like about that spot is that I don't have to stretch/reach like if it was up above the radio.

I also find that spot to be good because I can quickly steady my hand on shifter(people going to complain about that)/ find my position so I can quickly request new playlist or try and tap the voice command button if for some reason its not working by voice.

EDIT!:

Using a slim case like this that has a depression in it so I don't actually have to stick the metal plate for the magnetic part to my phone or a case.

u/gglidd · 1 pointr/ipad

My vote would be for a pair of these , at opposite ends of the case would likely do just the trick. I've used them in my cars for a few years now, work great. Never had a phone fall off even when doing stupid things in my jeep.

u/noping · 1 pointr/Dashcam

Thanks for the tip! Looks similar to the Mobius, that may be the way to go. Saw someone using this mount, looks pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00I608BJ8/ Action shots: http://i.imgur.com/ouoxlWsl.jpg http://i.imgur.com/8HXFAADl.jpg

u/dappervillain · 1 pointr/nexus6

I used to use one of these.

Works like the couple others listed and worked well. Never fell off the mount. Used it with my Ringke slim case. Just adhere the supplied plate to the inside of the case where you want the phone to be held. Then mount your dock.

Scosche makes a few types of these "magic mounts" along with various competitors, the adhesive one above, one with a suction mount and maybe a few variants of that. The convenience of using a magnetic mount is great. Worked very well with my Nexus 5 (naked), Nexus 6 is just a bit too heavy and poorly designed to hold itself up with a magnetic mount. Needs a case/plate

u/brentnotbret · 1 pointr/Moto_Z

I use one for my car. Works best with no mod or style shell. Works great with the Moto style shells (have the included wood and also the leather). Works OK with the TUMI battery pack. Doesn't work well with the Incipio style shells, doesn't work at all with the Mophie battery.

I use the Scosche Magic Mount and did not have to use the included adhesive metal plates.

Also I've noticed no interference with any of the mods.

I use the Scosche Magic Mount in a similar location to /u/noncil's Exo mount.

Works better for me because I've got the Note Edge, and most "grippy" mounts or tray mounts don't expand enough in the direction I want them to. Yeah, you do end up sticking a plate to the back of your phone, but it works so well I can't see myself doing it any other way.

u/XiNAVRO · 1 pointr/ft86

Since the 2017 Toyota 86 has a redesigned, single-piece synthetic faux suede (doesn't seem like Alcantara) dash trim, most of the generic phone mounts didn't work for me as they would use either adhesive or suction cup mounts and that was not an option for the suede surface. I also did not want to block the vent holes, as when I use temperature control I need that vent to actually work as a vent.

What I did was a bit more expensive than I'd like, but it is a great setup:

  • ProClip Angled Mount: Comes with two-sided stickers on the attaching parts, but I did not use them as I did not want adhesive to contact the faux suede surface and the fit was tight enough as is.
  • Scosche MagicMount Original (Amazon link): I have attached this onto the ProClip mount. ProClip did have a mount designed for the iPhone, but I have a case on my phone and did not want my options to be limited when I decide to change my case (or the phone itself for that matter).
  • 1ft Lightning cable (this is the one I chose, for reference): I wanted a short cable as I did not want unnecessary clogging, or to disconnect it whenever I dismount the phone. 1ft works fine with the above setup - pick whichever color / brand you prefer.

I had the same issue and I ended up going for an aftermarket deck and I'm glad I did. I installed it for the aux in, but I ended up not even using it. Instead it automatically pairs with my phone when I turn the car on and there's a mic that you put on the steering column for hands free calling.

I installed an older version of this deck with this dash kit. I also use a magnetic dash mount and it makes for a really clean wireless setup.

Here's a video of it installed. You can change the colours to match the vehicle though.

I use the one in the below link. It is supposed to use the metal plate behind your case, but with the Note 5 and now my Note 7, it works fine without it. However, a smooth case (or no case) is required for it to work without the metal plate. I avoid the metal plate because I use wireless charging and Samsung pay very frequently.
