Most likely late to the game, but if you are looking for a HRM and want something other than chest, consider this one (https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-RHYTHM-Heart-Monitor-Armband/dp/B00QSRQ1UM/ref=sr_1_2?s=prime-day&psr=PD16&ie=UTF8&qid=1468385825&sr=1-2&keywords=Ant%2B) currently on prime deal.

He mentions it often as his go to option.

My 2 cents, i did end up researching a lot of these questions individually.

  • A) Peloton will automatically insert it based on the old method of 220-age
  • B) ?
  • C) The zone breakdown on the Peloton bike is inaccurate. It is best not to rely on it.
  • D) Most people recommend the Scosche Rhythm+ Heart Rate Monitor Armband, you can find it on Amazon.
  • E) Take the latest average heart rate across all of the FTP tests you've taken, and use the Data Cranker website to calculate your zones.
  • F) ?
  • G) Individual HR zones are based on the physiological process of going from a resting level to a breathless level. Thus it is important to know the resting HR as well.
  • H) Christine D'Ercole has a good write up about how she calls out the cues and how to apply HR Zones. It is in the notes on her Facebook page. More specifically, the beginner instructions and what classes to take regarding Heart Zone training.
  • I) Everyone is different, it really depends on the individual. Be wary of any chest pain, dizziness, lightheadedness or neck/shoulder pain. Talk to your doctor if you are experiencing any symptoms.

A fan is essential. I ended up switching from stand fan to a carpet dryer. The carpet dryer fan sits in front of the wheel and blows air up through the handlebars. It's the best fan solution I have found for spinning. There are multiple brands but I have the one below. https://www.amazon.com/XPOWER-P-230AT-Speeds-Outlets-2-3-Amp/dp/B00BY48UU8/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813128&sr=8-9&keywords=carpet+dryer+fan

Get a heart rate strap. The best one I have found is the Scosche. https://www.amazon.com/Scosche-RHYTHM-Heart-Monitor-Armband/dp/B00QSRQ1UM/ref=sr_1_13?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813531&sr=8-13&keywords=heart+rate+strap

I like decent sound while riding so I bought a set of Audio Engine speakers which I connect to the bike bluetooth using an audio engine B1 bluetooth receiver. I got thew small speakers due to available space but they work well with a subwoofer I already had. There are many brands of powered speakers that are cheaper. https://www.amazon.com/Audioengine-A2-Powered-Speaker-System/dp/B00DQMJE7E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1511813734&sr=8-3&keywords=audioengine+a2

Finally, for mood lighting I bought a Phillips Hue Bloom light which I point at wall in front of bike.

Wifey and I got the shoes, the mat, and a set of 2lbs weights so it would look super sleek.

Sorry for the crap formatting below. Mobile/sleeping baby on me.

For headphones these have worked well, though the slack is a little burdensome with longer hair/sweaty neck, you can’t beat the price:

LETSCOM Bluetooth Headphones IPX7 Waterproof, Wireless Sport Earphones, HiFi Bass Stereo Sweatproof Earbuds w/Mic, Noise Cancelling Headset for Workout, Running, Gym, 8 Hours Play Time https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DXSYJ5N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Pr0vDbS32SHY5

For HRM, like others have said - here’s the amazon link. Battery life and quality is great:

This might be a good solution for you - Scosche Rhythm+.

It's an IR light sensor arm band that's lightweight, easy to set up, more accurate than many chest straps, waterproof (1m), and works with a variety of apps so you can pick the software that is best for you.
