Alright, I've given you guys 48 hours to post this one, so here it is:

SEIKO 5 SNZH55

Price: $133.16
Movement: 7s36B
Style: Diver
Size: 42mm
Link: Amazon, Pic
Description: Great looking Seiko 5 series diver, often used for fifty fathoms mods (but in stock form looks great). This is the standard black version, it is also available in blue, black with gold accents, and a gold tone version.

u/DevilishRogue · 12 pointsr/Watches

The Casio MDV106-1AV is a perfect daily use watch and does look like the Rolex Submariner but is a great watch in it's own right. It is quartz rather than automatic but considered by many to be best available budget dive watch. You can purchase the bracelet for it for less than $30.

If you must have an automatic rather than a quartz then the Orient Ray II is a great option that is also similar to the Submariner in terms of design but again a quality time piece in and of itself.

And if you aren't bothered about having the Rolex style looks, the Seiko SNZH55 is designed along the lines of the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms and also an excellent timepiece.

Really wouldn't suggest it, there is a fairly similar Seiko 5 in your price range which would be of much better quality and within your price range. Parnis watches are known to be slightly questionable in their qc.

Edit: there are lots of similar Seiko 5s but here is one somewhat like that (and slightly cheaper): http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0045D6570/ref=pd_aw_sims_1?pi=SY115&simLd=1

Plenty of Seikos don't cost anything like as much as the SKX007: for example, the SNZH55 (which I own) - Amazon link

I think most people here will agree that they are bloody good watches, particularly in the "value for money" category.

Whoa thanks /u/tross13!
I didn't expect you to deliver in such a short notice. I appreciate you took the time and effort to do this. This is so cool, people like you make this subreddit shine. I too got the Seiko bug.Got my first one two weeks ago. Since everyone seems to go for the very popular SNK007 (for a good reason, this watch is truly amazing) i wanted something a little different and went for the SNZ55 . I couldn't be happier. What everyone says is true : Seiko delivers a lot a bang for the buck. Thanks again OP!!

Looking to get a watch with some Christmas money, but am pretty overwhelmed by all the choices. Probably leaning towards a silver-band with a black face, in the <$200 (could stretch a little) price range. Currently looking at:

Looking for any general advice or other suggestions

u/saskd · 3 pointsr/malefashionadvice

At that price I would go with a Seiko SNZH55. The Amazon picture kind of sucks, but if you do an image search you'll find some much better pictures. Spend the left over cash on a Hirsch Liberty strap. You'll have something that looks like this.

For bauhaus watches you might want to look at mondaine or braun.

http://www.mondaine.com/mondaine-watches/

http://www.braun-clocks.com/watches

With the more military look, these are always popular http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-Mens-Automatic-Watch-SNK805K2/dp/B000LTAY1U/ref=sr_1_6?s=watch&ie=UTF8&qid=1370202169&sr=1-6 there are a few choices of dial color, and you can get a better case for a little more money.

This kinda fits and would be good for a bartender

Here are some suggestions:
Seiko SNZH55
Steinhart Ocean 1 Black
Citizen Eco Drive There are a billion models of these, I just picked one.
Tissot PRS-516

Those should get you started.

u/zygie · 2 pointsr/Watches

Sure. The Japanese are kings of value at that price point, and you'll have a fair share of selections from a few brands, types of movement (automatic/mechanicals, quartz, UHF quartz, solar quartz, etc.) and styles (diver, field, pilot, chrono, etc.) all good for day-to-day wear.

A good place to start is look through listings from Seiko, Orient, Citizen, and Casio's Edifice line.

A few examples:

Seiko SNZG13 - automatic field/military style

Orient Defender - automatic field style - also comes in blue

Seiko SNZF17(black) / SNZF15(blue/pepsi bezel) - automatic diver style

Seiko SNZH55/53/57 - automatic black, blue, and black/gold diver style

Various Seiko chronographs on bracelets - quartz movements

Orient Mako II and Ray II - automatic diver style watches with an upgraded movement over the Seiko automatics

Various Casio Edifice chronographs on bracelets - quartz movements

There's a lot more not limited to these brands as well - I'm sure other people can recommend you something nice. I've excluded models not on a bracelet - but if you change your mind you can also look through Citizen and Bulova's offerings.

Here's the current buying guide on $0-$250 watches.

If you really like the MVMT, just buy it, but do so knowing what you're actually getting. The particular model you linked has a chronograph but doesn't even have markings on the subdials, so the chronograph is kinda pointless - how can you tell which dial is which?

u/ActivateHeroShield · 2 pointsr/Watches

I bought this watch after looking through the Buying Guide thread. Someone mentioned the SEIKO 5 SNZH55 and in that comment the Fifty Five fathoms mod was mentioned. Intrigued, I looked it up and the original watch by Blancpain and was blown away. This is the second watch in my collection (My first being a Tissot Visodate), and I love this very much.

I'm very new to watches but spend waaaay too much time on this sub. I am no where near delicate enough to mod a watch on my own, so I bought this one modded off of eBay.

I've ordered a Brady Strap with Gold stitching to replace the original band with. Loving this watch so far.

u/nautimike · 2 pointsr/Watches

Invicta 'resurrected' an old Swiss brand name(they have nothing to do with the original company), they tend to copy other companies designs or style cues, often using stock Japanese or Swiss movements with Chinese made cases & assembly, and the have insanely high MSRP but the watches are perpetually on sale for 70~80% off. If the Invicta MSRP is $315, but, the watch is always 'marked down' 73% to $85...then the watch is only worth about $85.

This lack of legitimate heritage, questionable marketing practices, along with quality issues and poor customer service have given the brand a bad reputation.

That said, I used to own the Invicta 8926. It was my daily/work watch for about a decade before I gave it to my brother. It got beat to hell and was worn nonstop for about 12 years, without any service, before it started keeping poor time. Not bad for $79.

If you like the watch and don't spend to much on it, it should will probably be fine. On the plus side, it likely has a Citizen/Miyota auto movement and may even be all stainless steel, so, it would be hard to beat for under $100.

Good, entry level brands to look at are Seiko, Citizen, & Orient. Possible alternatives;

The Seiko Monster is one of the best made watches out there under $200.

The Orient Mako is really well regarded.

Or the Seiko SNZH55 is a nice, affordable Blancpain Fifty Fathom inspired watch.

u/TheBoble · 2 pointsr/Watches

Hi all. I'm looking into purchasing a new watch with a budget of about $250. I want to get something a little dressier, as most of what I have tends to be more "sport" looking.

I understand Seiko fits some of these requirements, but I just don't love how they look. I was considering this https://www.amazon.com/Citizen-Eco-Drive-Quartz-Stainless-Leather/dp/B079995GSP
It is somewhat between sport and dress, and I love the silver face.

If possible, I'd like something solar powered. I have big wrists so anything less than 40mm looks tiny on my arm.

Thanks!

Edit: I take back what I said about Seiko and I'm considering this boi https://www.amazon.com/Seiko-SNZH55-Automatic-Black-Stainless/dp/B0045D6570/ref=pd_sbs_241_42?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0045D6570&pd_rd_r=0fe56069-b6d5-11e8-b96a-75051c3f57a5&pd_rd_w=5FeUn&pd_rd_wg=C4sYy&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=8017971983328801850&pf_rd_r=F7H19SASNW0D43Y3ES1R&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=F7H19SASNW0D43Y3ES1R

u/turk11042 · 2 pointsr/Seiko

how about a SNZH55. Comes on a bracelet but it can be dressed down on a nice brown leather strap like this for a younger look

u/turdbogls · 2 pointsr/Watches

no worries.

the rotating bezels are pretty much exclusively on Divers.

the Seiko 5 SNZH55 is pretty awesome IMO and fits the bill its automatic though.

maybe the casio MDV106 would work. rotating bezel, solid design, clean dial, quartz, and can take a beating. only comes on rubber, but its cheap enough you could get a plethora of bands for it and swap them out. highly praised around here.

timex coastline is another option

as is the timex expedition ranger...actually looks REALLY nice.

hard to go wrong with Timex, casio, or Seiko really. any other brand, I'd just pass on honestly. also keep in mind you can get a decent metal bracelet for like $30-$40 and swap it on there.

u/ethanzh · 2 pointsr/Watches

I went with this one, it was on sale for $138 and just couldn't pass it up. I feel you, saving might have been better but I think the 5 is worth it.

u/Vrijkaart · 1 pointr/Watches

Hi,

Is it normal to wear a diver as a non diver? (I work in ict/trading/finance).
This watch got my interest: amazon link

I was specifically interest in this steel bracelet black dial type of watch. This was the other watch I consider in case it's considered a bit odd to weir a diver. amazon link

Watches like Seiko's SKX007, SKX013 or SNZH57 are much better quality watches, and would be great for you because they have a very healthy modding community. You can buy all of the bezel inserts you want to use with a SXK007/SNZH57/SKX013 and swap them yourself. You can even change everything to make it look just like a blancpain fifty fathoms.

u/bscepter · 1 pointr/Watchexchange

Here are a couple.

(each word is a separate link, btw.)

Hello gents, I'm trying to decide what watch to buy. My budget has a hard limit of $400 (weird right?) I've read the watch buying guides and there are some divers there that I like but lately this watch has been catching my attention. Does anybody here own a Citizen at4010-50e? Any reviews? Can I switch out the straps for nato straps or even leather ones? Also, any recommendation on good divers?

Thanks guys

u/notaneggspert · 1 pointr/Watches

[Mod] So I really want a Mako II with the seconds hand from the Ray II, the bezel from a SKX007K and enclosed with sapphire glass.

Where do I begin? What's a good watch modding form to buy/trade parts from?

I haven't looked at the sizes of the cases to see if I could potentially drop the movement from the Mako II into the case of an SKX007 after swapping the seconds hand from the Ray II.

I wish the SK007 hacked and had a lume pip on the indicator instead of the counter weight. Like the SKX013 does.

The SNZH55 would be perfect with a hacking movement and a bezel with more graduations.

Edit: I guess at the end of the day "saving" up for a Prospex SRPB51 would probably be easier and probably cost less in the long run but I still prefer the hour/minute hands from the Mako, and the seconds hand from the Ray.

Edit 2: This photoshopped watch is basically my "perfect" dive watch except with this bezel I just didn't want to do more photoshopping than necessary and the SEIKO SAMURAI bezel insert already lined up with the other watches.

u/johnwclark · 1 pointr/Watches

For as much as I want to agree on the SKX, he did ask for a dress watch.

Maybe look at the Seiko dress diver, SNZH55 for $140, and get him a nice bottle of scotch with the money left over,

u/SirLaxer · 1 pointr/Watches

You should check out the Seiko SNZH55.

  • Japanese Movement

  • Dive Watch

  • Metal bracelet (that can be swapped)

  • No numbers

  • 22mm lugs

  • Way under budget, around $130

    It was my first automatic

OK I took a look at the site and couldn't understand a word and couldn't figure out the currency conversion properly.

If you can find these watches in Sweden you'll be very happy. Invicta isn't a very good brand unfortunately:

Orient Ray
