This all only definitely applies to the uni I attended, it might be different to the one you're going to :-)
You can take the essentials, and pick up what you need once you've worked it out from the local shops.
Remember to clean your bedding at least once every two weeks, and your towels pretty often too. I did weekly washes and washed my towels in with that, but that was too much time between fresh towels for me. Also ladies don't like unclean beds. Keep your bed clean and the ladies won't mind sleeping in it so much.
Keeping your door open does let people meet you, but it can be quite a distraction, so be weary about when you do it, join in with the societies and get to know your flat/room/coursemates. Course mates make great revision buddies, room mates are often up for a night out. Try not to sleep with either, that just makes the course or living with them awkward if it all goes horribly wrong.
Sennheisers aren't all expensive. 200 series headphones go for around $20. Here's the HD-202 and the HD-201. There are also lots of deals to be had with Sennheiser, like foundsleeping said. I similarly got a pair of $180 phones (HD-555) for $70 on Amazon. Just keep your eyes peeled.
And yes, just about any Sennheiser product is worth the price they charge. They make fantastic products.
I can't recommend the Sennheiser HD 202's enough. Don't let the price fool you. I've been buying these headphones for years. (Actually the model I own isn't currently in production but was succeeded by the HD 202's). I accidentally broke my last pair and just bought a new pair of these. I own many different headphones including a pair of AKG-K701's and I actually prefer the Sennheisers for most casual listening.
need to know what you're plugging the headphones into. if it's an ipod, really no need to get any better than these fantastic Sennheiser HD 202's. Noise-isolating enough for a NYC subway ride (not that it's always a good idea, mind you...) I've abused my pair for over 2 years now and they really are unbreakable, plus the sound quality is great for $20...
Earbud headphones are pretty bad for your ears when loud. That is sound directly into your ear hole. Plus they arn't that great sound quality. Get some headphones, even 30 dollar one's and you'll notice a nice difference in sound quality.
I won't deny it either tho. I sometimes get carried away with volume even knowing im screwing up my hearing :/. I made my first purchase for earplugs yesterday tho to use this weekend - coachella WOOT! -. I'm hoping they work as said and don't muffle sound.
If anyone reads this and has some input on quality earplugs, fill me in. I've read of some custom fitting ones you can get made, I wouldn't mind that if they really preserved sound quality.
Sennheiser has good inexpensive headphone options for $20-30. Try either the CX300 in-ear headphones or HD202 DJ headphones. I've owned a set of HD202s and they are a great value for $20, and I've heard great things about the CX300 as well. They make more expensive models too that are great as well (currently I use a set of $100 HD555s).
I'm on my second pair of these. They work SO well. The bass is dynamic and the sound cancelling is very immersive. I really recommend these headphones.
I am very pleased with my Sennheiser HD 202's.
I actually just ordered some headphones, and decided to go with these. Haven't gotten them yet, but always hear good things about them.
I also own a pair of these Bose ones, which I was given as a gift. The sound and comfort is great, but they're constructed poorly, and the earphones can break off the frame. Nothing that some super glue couldn't fix, though... but still, not worth the price.
If you want fantastic, but cheap headphones, check out the Sennheiser HD 202's.

They are $299 usd a pair and don't sound much better than $29.99 Sennheiser HD 202 http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-202-Dynamic-Headphones/dp/B000065BP9/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1377087461&sr=1-2&keywords=sennheiser+hd+202 These sennheisers have ample amounts of bass as well. I've owned the HD 202 for 4+ years, and tested the Beats in stores with my mp3 player.
I'm a fan of this Sony pair as a ear bud alternative. Nice and light weight. I haven't been jogging, but I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 202 (newegg is only selling HD 202 II, which are getting really bad reviews - not sure what's up with that) while doing a bit of weightlifting. They are a touch heavy though, not to mention very large, so I don't think I'd want to use them while jogging.
I've been using a Sennheiser HD 202 for a few years now. I've never had any problems. Excellent quality for under $30.

I got them about 3 year ago off Amazon for either £30 or £35 (I used a £30 gift card I’d got for Christmas)

Budget: ~$150, wouldn't mind if closer to $100
Source: Nexus 4, Desktop
Isolation: Doesn't matter
Type: Full-sized (closed preferred, but could go for open ones)
Balance: A little bit bass heavy
Previous headphones: I've never had headphones >$25, had Sennheiser HD 202s that broke
Preferred Music: Drum and Bass, EDM, punk/metal, almost everything else (My focus is bolded)
I've been looking at Audio-Technica ATH-M50s, but some people say they're overrated/overpriced. At $147 on Amazon, they did increase in price by almost 150% of what they were in May 2013.
Sennheiser HD202. Cost $20. Buy them.

I think the key here is "cheap Sennheiser headphones". I have these and the quality is great.
I'm also not sure what he's talking about with it being too quiet. I have the volume just over halfway and it's great. It starts getting uncomfortably loud over around 3/4 of the volume bar, but that's just personal preference. I can guarantee it's plenty loud enough though!
I got this recently and am extremely happy with it.
I use senheiser 202s and they work perfectly for this. I play on a very loud electric kit and the insulation on these is just enough to block out the sound. Sound quality is damn good, clearly not the best, but damn good. They are nice and light, so they stay on my head when I rock out. The 10 foot cable on them is really handy too. And for about 25 bucks, if it doesnt work out, I wouldn't be too worried.
