I picked up the Sennheiser HD 202s a while back just because of the price. A fantastic-sounding and comfortable set of headphones for ~$20.

I do not remember that talk, however Giantbomb's go to headphones for there podcasts are Sennheiser HD 202 which are only $25 the only issue with them it that the audio cord is over 10 feet long.

The headphones that are used in the control room are the Sennheiser HD 280 Pro at $99 which are great headphones for the price.

And if you can find a pair the Sennheiser HD 419 which I use are awesome I have a large head and I can wear this for hours on end without issue. They go for about $30 - $40 if you can find them.

Honestly anything made by Sennheiser is a good choice. Just make sure to check the specs, 60hz is all you really need for low end, everything below that just messes up the mix anyways. You can also find cheap speakers and a mini sub for cheap (40$ or so). It's always a good idea to have multiple speakers so you can hear it on multiple different platforms.

If you want to save money and only care about performance/price ratio try this combination in the sub 75 dollar range, which should be sufficient for most gamers. This will net you better quality than anything that is marketed for gaming:

I was going through this thinking that I guess I don't really have any brand loyalties, but I think this one applies. Really though, if anyone is looking for a great set of headphones the HD202s are a phenomenal set in the 25 USD range. I've had mine for about 7 months and couldn't be happier.

They also make higher-end stuff. That being said, the entry-level stuff is great for the layman, and the more expensive stuff is probably just for the most affluent audiophiles.

I just listened to some of those the other day, they sound like $20 headphones with 10x too much bass added on.

Comparing them, they sound pretty similar to these but with way more bass (which is a bad thing).

I agree. Sennheiser makes good cans for the price. These headphones are inexpensive ($25), good quality, and durable as hell. I am convinced they are indestructible. The only con/pro is that the cable is 10 feet long.

I have these and am very pleased with them. The headphones are a bit small though, so avoid them if your ears are on the larger side.

Yeah, Ear buds are terrible at blocking outside noise. That is to say, they don't do it at all. Even something as cheap as this will make a big difference. Most headphones list the noise dampening in their stats.

I use a pair of Sennheiser HD 202's and they're great. Excellent sound quality and they're cheap.

I personally swear by Sennheiser headphones. If you're looking for a budget headset, their 202's are very solid. If you've got a bit of a heftier budget, I use their HD 598's, as they're lightweight, very comfy to wear, and have tremendously good sound quality.

4. The guitar is connected to your PS4 through a quarter-inch jack (the bit that plugs into the guitar) into a USB connection. The cable is good because it's universal with all platforms. You use the controller to navigate.

Hi! I'm looking for closed on-ear headphones around ~£30-40 (45-60$). Initially, I was interested in Sony's MDR-XB450, but after a quick search it seems like bass is not very well defined, just loud. I'm mostly interested in a well resolved mid and low range, especially at high-bitrates (I usually listen in FLAC). I'm also planning to use them outside, so they need to be well isolated.

After browsing through this sub and head-fi.org, I've found the following options:

1. Audio-Technica ATH-M20X: the only obvious problem with these is that the cable is too long! I couldn't find any cheap M40X's.
   
   
2. Sennheiser 504291 HD 202: these are very cheap, but I don't think they are as good as option (1).

If Hollywood mixed everything to sound good on the shitty cheap speakers most people use, then they would be screwing over the people with nice sound systems. Audio engineers are serving you filet mignon, and you're insisting on eating it on a paper plate, with ketchup.

If you can't hear movies, you're watching on a portable device without headphones, or you're using the shitty speakers in your cheap flatscreen HDTV. The real problem is that it's impossible to get good sound out of tiny, flat speakers. Hollywood is not to blame, just buy some speakers, you don't have to spend a fortune on a decent pair of headphones or even 5.1 speakers, just buying dedicated sound is enough.

The combos aren't always the greatest, especially lower price models (and for just gaming, a lav mic works more than fine.) The microphone is going to likely be the same exact quality as a ~$30 gaming headset. I'll occasionally just clip the lapel mic onto my headphone cable or my shirt, and works just fine. I think you'll be much happier with sound quality from the headphones too. You can even save $10 and get some Senn HD 201 lightweights

If you're going for over the ear headphones, I've used this Sennheiser model for a while and I love it.

Alternately, I don't know if you've bought cables or plugs or whatever from Monoprice before, but they offer a ton of other stuff as well, including some really good earphone options for dirt cheap. Take your pick. I've never tried any of their headphones, but Monoprice's reputation precedes it and it will get you instant nerd cred if that's your crowd.

For the price the sound quality is excellent. I can hear footsteps very well I'd say. The downside is that they aren't durable enough to go outside with.

Those should be just fine - I've not used them myself, but they are closed-back so they should provide decent isolation.

For my guests heres what I have and they work well, comfortable, good isolation, and easy to hear with.

IMO, i don't like headphones that are branded as "Gaming" ones, i feel the standard models are better, well that's my experience.

I have a set of sennheiser headphones that were $25. I have taken them to work and back for 7 years and they still work and sound great. I wear them for, literally, 8 to 10 hours a day, 5 days a week.

The audio quality is superb to my ears. I am not exactly and audiophile, but I can generally tell if an mp3 in my library is at 192kbps or less (and be annoyed by the crunched highs and muddy low end). I suppose if I had to find one thing that could be improved, it is the low end bass response. The drivers are large enough that they should be getting a bit more bass. I generally don't listen to especially bass-reliant music like hip-hop so this is rarely noticeable to me.

I know it seems like the low price means it wouldn't be that great, but that has not been the case to me. I'm not sure on the currency conversion, Google tells me this's under $50 right now, but you never know where things'll be.
I never really had a good pair of headphones, and my last pair of "mediocre" headphones got eaten by our new puppy. Hopefully in a month or so he'll be less chewy, and until then I can get by with "not even mediocre" headphones.
So, patience is a virtue and sometimes also convenient.

I've heard rumours that this is a rebranded 569 as well (someone linked a neogaf post or something on another thread?) so that's kind of strange. I use these. They are pretty great, but don't have mic.

If you're willing to go for another $10, these are a good pair. They don't work too well for wearing them in public places, though. The Koss PortaPros are renowned for their great sound and low cost. They're also very portable, as the name suggests. Finally, this pair of Sennheisers is very cheap and has great sound. I personally have the Marshall Majors, and I like them a lot, but they are well over $40. Good luck finding the pair you like!

I had this Senheiser and they were good actually, but I don't like anymore to wear over the head headphones. After a couple of hours my ears start sweating and I just want to pull them off. I prefer a more unobtrusive ones.

I'd say try other kinds of low-intensity, low-volume noise on a good set of circumaural headphones. The Sennheiser HD 202 II are not only fantastic, they're inexpensive as hell if you need to replace them. Whichever noise you choose, you don't want it to be loud enough to be distracting; instead, it should be background noise that doesn't actively grab your attention, while at the same time drowning out distracting noise.

I can't find professional (or trustworthy) reviews of Sentey products, heard iffy things about Monoprice, and the Sennheiser I've heard good things about but the HD 202 doesn't have detachable cables.

Another vote for Sennheiser's. I've had the HD 202's for about 6 or 7 years now and they still work awesome!

To go with that mp3 player, get you some good headphones. Most importantly, something closed-back like these or possibly these will block out external sounds far better than earbuds will. Audio quality will be much higher as well, assuming you've got a good source (high-bitrate mp3). I guess Beats will block external noise pretty well too, but they're generally overpriced and not that great-sounding.

Well that's a good thing to know about the grados; some of the amazon reviews complain about the same thing.

I had my eyes set on the Sennheiser 201's or 202's as my non-premium choice. I don't know if I'm ready to plunk down over 100 dollars on a set of headphones yet if I was still on the fence about the Grados. I like the earbuds, so maybe I'll try my luck with these as a first step.

For gaming the sound quality is good but half of that is honestly just good earcup design that blocks out a ton of external sound. Voice quality is clear on voice chat and I generally don't get many complaints about the mic quality (though sometimes programs like mumble adjust the volume of your mic and if you turn it down there it'll also turn it down in TF2 so watch out for that.)

I'm starting out too but, sadly, an amp is out of the question for me as I live in an apartment. I've been considering getting a Vox headphone amp and a pair of Sennheisers. Does that sound like a good alternative? Is there a better option?

$20 bucks and they do the job. Never use anything other than an IEM or over-the-ear headphones so you can protect your hearing. I don't like the expensive over-the-ear headphones because I like to be able to hear my drumset so I can gauge my volume while playing. If you set your music volume (from a Zune/iPod) right, then you can still hear the band/drummer, but also hear what you are playing.

You can beat the price significantly.

These headphones Sennheiser HD 202 are great. Super comfortable and sound quality is awesome. They are a little more bass heavy but if you don't mind it then its cool. These are what I take whenever I go out, for 20$ I dont have to worry too much about them taking a beating. They have gotten a little bit looser over time when I compared them to a brand new pair. But without comparing them, they still fit snug with no complaints. Once these go out, I would buy another pair for my casually on the go listening.

I use these at gigs and when I'm at home and really want quality (Ultrasone DJ1 Pro). These are really really awesome in sound quality aspect. But that comes with a price, 150$. Unlike the above 202's these are heavier and more bulky so I don't take them on the go for casual listening. But when I'm at home or at a show they are great. The only downside is that they are pretty damn big. They don't fit as snug as the 202's but it is a different type of fit. The 202's land on top of my ears and these completely surround your ears. If I bob my head too much they might slip off. Sound wise, they sound great. They are more flat on the spectrum so I believe they have higher fidelity and sound closer to what the original mastered tracked was intended to be.

Those are the two main headphones I can really speak for by having owned them for some time now. They are both great for their prices but have different uses. Liek you said if you dont care about bulky and want quality sound, the DJI pros are the way to go. There are also DJ1s but I believe those emphasize the bass more, like the 202s, which isn't really a good thing (depending what you want). I believe the producer masters a track to what he thinks sounds best at and what it's suppose to be heard at. When you start getting too much of a certain frequency, it will throw the balance off on the song and what is was intended to be heard at. But if your a "I love bass/give me more" type of guy, what ever floats your boat and ears.Stay away from in ear headphones. Stay away from Bose/Skullcandy/Beats/Dre. Sennheisser is a quality brand. There are many good headphones out there, these are the two I can speak for.

Edit: To add to the DJ1 pros, the speakers inside are angled at a certain way to work with the acoustics in your ears. I don't know exactly how this works with the acoustics, but the speaker inside the headphone isnt just pointing straight foward into your ear like most headphones.

Depending on what I am doing, if I am at work or just sitting around at home, it's these. The are really good for the price.

If I am working out, then it's these. Once I put them in, I am golden. Never once have they fallen out or made me readjust.

Can't go wrong with the Sennheiser HD 202. They're cheap, comfortable and sound amazing.

I suggest you buy a microphone and headphones separately. I have this microphone and it works perfectly for gaming voice chats. Get good quality headphones and you will be good to go. These should do the job.

The advantage is that you will get much better sound quality because gaming headsets tend to overlook that aspect, especially in that price range.

It's probably not worth it just for the 7.1. Tho i have heard the 780 is more comfortable. A pair of headphones and a clipon mic would give 3x sound quality tho. Go for it if you want, just seems stupid imo.

I Really like my Sennheiser HD 202's for home use.. 2yr warranty, comfortable, and not too hard on the wallet. I have skullcandy earbuds for going places, they sound ok (better than the stock ones anyway) and also are cheap to replace.

I have a pair of those and a pair of HD202s and they are both great! I prefer the way hd202s sound (the 201s don't have much base by comparison) but the hd201s are much more comfortable (the 202s hurt my ears if I wear them too long but I can wear the 201s for hours). I also have some JVC HA-RX 700s and they are a good mix of both and don't cost much more, they sound a lot like the 202s but are as comfortable as the 201s.

Also the Panasonic HTF-600 sound great and fit great out of the box but they aren't very durable so I wouldn't recommend them. The HTF-600 seem to have a week point around a pivot area on either side, each side can fall off if a .75mm 1.5mm-2mm think plastic clip thing breaks (For me that was after 4 months of almost daily use and I could not repair with epoxy and metal strips)... I should have stopped buying cheap headphones and just gotten some nicer ones, I'm an idiot.

Edit: Found HTF-600s and measured broken part, it was covered in epoxy so it's just a rough measurement (I had kept them to remind myself not to buy more cheap headphones).

We use these Sienhauser HD202 at my old radio station and hey are awesome. My only gripe is that the cord is suuuuuper long. I've added a knot to shorten it but besides that, I love them.

See if you can get some Creative Aurvana Live (first version, not Live 2; those are good too, but too expensive).

If not, then you should be able to find a pair of Sennheiser HD202, they're sold pretty much everywhere. They're not over ear, they overlap on your ears, but the pads are soft and comfortable. They'll fit your music well.

If you want an open headphone : Superlux HD681EVO

I recommend the Superlux HD681EVO because It has a wide soundstage, good bass and is more oriented to your needs than the HD202. As far as adjustable bass goes you could just do that in an equalizer.

I use Sennheiser HD 202s with the 10 ft cord. They are good quality and can be picked up cheap. My one pair lasted 2 years until some asshole kid tried to get my attention by tugging the cord and ripped it free.

I wear glasses and think they are pretty comfortable.

Good choice, just make sure that you get the Aurvana Live Gen 1. The second generation of this headphone is not nearly as good sounding.

Easily the best headphones available for under $30, are Sennheiser HD 202 II 's. They're not pretty, they have a long cord but goddamn they sound great for the price. They also make more expensive versions, all available on Amazon.

I just don't recommend Sennheiser's entry level headphones like the HD202 or HD201. Sennheiser just can't compete at the lowest end of the market.
