I landed on my hip a few seasons ago and was out for half a season. Ends up landing on a plastic shell in cheap hockey pants does damage. Since then, I've worn a shockdoctor girdle that has additional hip padding on both sides. It was about $80CDN on amazon. I also wear a pair of Tackla pants (sorry can't remember the SKU) that offers additional padding in the hip area. I've taken a few spills since then and noticed a big improvement. Hope this helps.
