Why not just buy the TV remote attachment for your Roku remote?

Maintain the functionality of your Roku remote but add TV functionality.

Yeah, my cable box/DVR powers itself on to record scheduled programs, but it does not shut itself back off when the recording is finished. This is what throws my system out of sync all the time. I had thought about grabbing one of those Roku Sideclick remotes, but got a great deal on the Harmony remote so I gave it a shot first.

Years ago there was one of those home shows on TV and they were in a celebrity's house, the person had this remote that looked like a tablet running some sort of custom firmware that controlled everything in the house. It was TV remote, shut the blinds, dimmed the lights, flushed the toilet, you get the idea. I always wondered what the heck it was, and if I could "roll my own" version of that. Some crazy stuff out there for sure.

If you have a TCL tv, don't you have Roku built-in? That's how my TCL is. I just bought this to control my sound bar

there are really two choices I'm aware of: 1) attach a secondary remote to your roku remote, or 2) use a universal remote that controls both the roku and the tv. Personally I use the Logitech Harmony 650 universal remote and it works great - plus it controls all my other devices (soundbar, bluray player, xbox, heck I even had it set up to control my air conditioner!) so I only have one remote to deal with. I have no experience with the sideclick remote so I can't say anything about it one way or the other.

For option 1, check out the Sideclick:https://www.sideclickremotes.com/collections/roku-streaming-accessories/products/sideclick-starter-kit-for-roku

for option 2, Logitech Harmony remotes can control up to 8 devices and work quite well. I use the Harmony 650, personally -- but I've had several models and they all work the same: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/product/harmony-remote-650?crid=60

Since others are mentioning all-in-one remote solutions.
I have this attachment for the Roku remote for the TV in the bedroom https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01LXAYO14/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_tN6RCbQ5DGFFT
It's a learning remote, allowing you to program the buttons, we use it mostly for sleep timers and turning the display off but leaving audio on.

I have found the Roku to be the most reliable set top box and the easiest for my parents to navigate. I have a large outdoor antenna mounted on the house that is connected to an HDHomeRun. That gives locals in one app and everything else in SlingTV. My parents have been able to navigate 2 apps with one remote well. I got them a Sideclick and they can run their entire setup from the Roku remote.

OP - it's a small piece of plastic that clips a TV remote control to your Roku remote:

u/stubbornmoose - Have you considered ordering a Sideclick? Snaps on to the Roku remote and does power, volume, channel, and input for the TV.

I have this soundbar. I love it. Even though it gets a bit mushy on the low end at higher volumes, it sounds great at normal levels.

I use a sideclick for volume control as well as basic TV functions.

EDIT: forgot to add that the sound bar turns on automatically when it gets a signal via optical connection. It also turns off automatically after the TV has been off for a bit.

Yeah, this thing seems like a team picked and chose features from other boxes including the formfactor of a Roku remote with a sideclick attached to it.

I swapped out my roku in the bedroom for a Mibox, that thing is awesome. It pulls my recently watched stuff from all apps to the front page, and has volume built-in on the remote. It has bluetooth that actually supports speakers and headphones. Totes great.

You have two options:

1 - look into getting a sideclick for your Roku

2 - get a universal remote and program one of the functions to control the Roku. This is the option that I did.

I had a Roku TV it was ok becasue it had a Roku, but the Roku was slow in it. I would recommend getting a TV then getting a 2016 Roku Stick and a SideClick remote and call it a day.
