Just barely out of your price range but these

gives midrange quality(no distortion and can handle complex music well but isn't uber clear for all music like a more pricey pair from senheiser)
has a mic that is well hidden if you put it up
uses a basic audio jack and doesn't require an amp.
some of the best sound quality in a gaming headset
cheap in comparison to other headphones.

After doing some research of my own this is what I aspire to get:

nice headphones (open back) / attachable mic / soundcard.

Leaning twards Sennheiser HD 558 Headphones, Antlion ModMic, and a xonar u7

This is way over your budget, and frankly mine too, but in due time...

Or you can get the skullcandy slyr. Its a closed back headset w/ mic for around $60 to $80 (its on sale now at amazon)

I bought the Skullcandy SLYR gaming headphones, around $70-$80, but are pretty decent quality, work as a headset for xbox, PS3, and PC, and double as casual headphones as well (fold up, hidden mic)

(looks like the black/yellow ones are on sale for $55)
