Tap him on the shoulder and ask him to move his setup down to the study lounge. Also, invest in some ear plugs and a white noise machine or some of these. I had a roommate who had to sleep with a loud television on and this really helped.

This problem might solve itself when your roomie fails all his courses and drops out.

Some friendly suggestions:

  1. Exercise - will help burn off that excess energy
  2. Melatonin - be sure to understand this supplement
  3. Sleep headphones - I have the [AcousticSheep](Sleepphones SC5BM Headphones Classic, Midnight Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00U2DDH0A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_L-7LBbKQKX8KE) , but there's a few other options. Put these bad boys on, fire up your favorite relaxation audio and drift off...
  4. Install a blue/green light filter on your phone and computer - set it to activate about 2 hours before your intended bedtime for best results. Or, turn off all electronic screens at this time.

Hope this helps - and hope you get some rest

I have been using AcousticSheep's bluetooth SleepPhones every night for a few months and they're great. They also have a (much cheaper) wired version if you don't mind occasionally strangling yourself.
