Of course it is my absolute pleasure!!! I truly wish the baby health!

  1. I was certain you were brushing, but wanted to mention since you did ask for possible causes. :) In case you feel you need a more effective brush try this one. It's the best for capturing those silky bun hairs, here it is in use.
  2. You these are definitely issues to get resolved ASAP. She is not eating enough hay and in part the set up is to blame.
    1. Start limiting pellets to 4 tablespoons!
    2. You have to do better with hay set up - hat hay rack like makes it very hard for her to eat it due to the tiny holes (cage hay racks are terrible!)
      1. You need hay on one side of her litter box as that is when bunnies eat hay the most when they poop! So put a heaping pile of hay next to her litter box or or use a better hay feeder like this one or this and make sure it is close to her litter box .
      2. In general you want to set up the litter box like this (no cover needed) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XI1aonqc5Tc - see what I mean by the hay?
    3. In general a cage is not conducive to this proper set up you need. Please see my comments above on how to improve it which will allow for a much better litter box/hay set up also... It's not expensive and when "eventually" comes you can donate what you don't need to a rescue. :) But right now make her a bigger space just as you said you plan on - look at the links I shared as examples and my guide - all you need is right there. :)

How to get the bunny to eat more hay:

There are some tips I can give to change that habit.. bear with me:

  3. So step 1 - make sure you are not overfeeding pellets - 4 tablespoons per day max.
  4. Step 2 is better hay set up
  5. Try to get really yummy high quality hay to entice him. I highly recommend trying this variety/sample box - https://shop.smallpetselect.com/products/sampler-box. It is fresh an has a few different kinds of hay for him to try. I think he will like it and it's worth a try for sure. I know it costs more, but it truly is worth it if he eats it as in the long run the money you save on vet bills will be greater, and of course your bun’s health… Try this - in any event it won't go to waste.

    1. When you get the box (it's a cool box) open it up and let him explore it. Bunnies love eating hay for some reason right out of that box when you first open it. The new interesting thing may prompt him to try it.
  6. Also you can try the compressed hay cubes that he might like - https://www.farmerdavepetsupply.com/15-lb-timothy-hay-mini-cubes?utm_source=google_shopping

    1. Again they won't go to waste...
  7. When you get the new hay, try not feeding any pellets for a week or so, and limit veggies - you need to get him to taste the hay and relay on it to not be hungry. I know he will be grumpy, but stand your ground, A hungry bunny will eat hay.
  8. Try rubbing some banana on the hay and hand feeding him some to try, again the goal is to get him to taste it ans think it is yummy.
  9. When you do feed pellets and veggies mix them in in a blow with hay so he has to forage to get to them.
  10. Also offer hay in more "interesting ways" - like mix a few treats into some hay and put it in a paper bag or stuff into a toilet paper roll for him to forage through to find the treats. Do the same thing and stuff an empty egg carton for him.

    1. Possibly having the extra stimulation along with new hay might work to entice him.

from amazon !! i should warn you in case you might run into a similar issue — my piggies are really picky and like to select the hay they eat and like to use the rest as bedding/to burrow in (theyre boars if that matters). when they got this feeder, they were eating less hay and it worried me so i had to take it off the side of the cage and lay it down inside the cage. granted i didnt wait that long and should have let them get used to it but i didnt want them to feel like they didnt have access to hay. im only warning you bc it is 40$ which is a bit much, esp if you cant use it the way it was intended.
