I've been quite happy with this case:

One drawback is that it doesn't protect some areas of the front of the phone.

Regarding your question about a slim cover for the Z3C, I've been using this one:

for almost 2 years now and I keep my phone in my front jeans pocket all the time. This case adds nearly no bulk and (knock on wood) I haven't cracked a screen or back yet. I don't have any tempered glass protectors or skins installed, just the case.
