I use these two sizes of bowls to hold componants while playing. They make picking thigs up easy, keep everything neatly in place/sorted, and look really nice! They stack up for storage as well.

10 of each (one small set one large set) has been exactly right for every game we’ve played.... even Keyper, which has a LOT of componants (literally 8 different animeeples!)

Edited for spelling corrections.

Not game specific, but little condiment bowls to hold any sort of components. Something like this

Using for a game like scythe is awesome, you can keep a handful of bowls on each side or corner of the table and it keeps the game organized and no one is reaching over the table. Biggest quality of life adjustment for the cheapest cost.

Storage solutions for whatever games you play the most is probably the next best thing. It can be expensive going the broken token route, but something like a Plano tacklebox thing for gloomhaven pieces will be about $10 and saves sooo much time.

Game mats are great too. I have the big one for 7th continent and it fits a lot of smaller stuff too. But you can order a custom 36 x 36 or whatever and upload your own image. It just keeps the table from getting scratched, makes it easier to slide pieces, and most importantly picking up cards is much easier.

This is not a recipe suggestion as much as a tip. Get squeezy bottles for:

  • Oil, peanut or some high temp oil
  • Broth
  • Soy sauce
  • Fish sauce [edit: just saw the seafood]
  • Sesame Oil
  • Sriracha

Also the little Soy Sauce Dishes for:

  • Ginger paste
  • Garlic
  • green onion tops
  • green onion bottoms
  • sugar
  • msg (or broth powder or ignore if you hate msg)
  • cornstarch
  • touchi
  • XO sauce [contains seafood]

Finally, do not buy the products I mentioned through the links I supplied. Go to your local chinatown. It will have all these products and cost less.

Other accessories: a gas burner, you can get a portable one at 10$. A wok ladle. and a spider.

As for recipes... er... popcorn? ;)

Stir fries are great, but once you start making your own fried rice you'll look forward to converting ALL leftovers into carby goodness.

Enjoy and don't hesitate to ask us questions!

  1. Yes.

  2. Yes. (I mean, you still need to explain the rules to them and they need to create a character, but the latter is quick and the former is no more difficult than explaining any other game.)

  3. No. People love to over-complicate this, but all you need for effectively storing Gloomhaven for rapid set-up and tear down are plastic baggies and some envelopes. (I'm going to break this down specifically, but it really just boils down to the common sense of "put each component type in its own baggie so that you don't have to sort them out every time you want to play".)

  • Character boxes, miniatures, monster cards, monster sleeves, and all active cards fit into the slots provided in the insert.
  • Take all cards not currently being used and place them in a large baggie. (I also drop in a notecard with the label "SUPPLY" so that I can quickly identify what that baggie is for.)
  • As you play the game, certain cards will be removed from the game. Place these in a new baggie. (Which I label "DEAD COMPONENTS" with a notecard.)
  • Use one baggie each for status tokens, hit points, summoning tokens, money tokens, scenario aid tokens, the plastic stands, and tokens for the elemental infusion board.
  • Place each monster type in a small baggie. Then place all the monster baggies into a large, gallon-size baggie.
  • Place all unlockables in one 8.5 x 11 envelope (including Town Records Book, stickers, sealed envelopes). (I also printed out a copy of p. 49 of the rulebook -- which summarizes the conditions for the unlockables -- and glued it onto the front of the envelope for easy reference and tracking. But that's optional.)
  • Place all the character sheets for the current party in another 8.5 x 11 envelope. To keep things even cleaner, you can create sub-envelopes for each character.

The baggies all go into the box insert. The map tiles go on top of that. The board goes on top of those. The envelopes and rulebooks go on top of that.

To keep things from getting chaotic during play, I recommend using small cups for each token type. Plastic soy sauce dishes are great for this, and super cheap. (I use them for virtually every game I play, so this isn't a Gloomhaven-specific expense.) When the game is over, you can just pour each dish back into a baggie.

Takes me 5-10 minutes to tear the game down. Takes me 15-20 minutes to set the game up.
