2 weeks ago I made a spreadsheet comparing the value of 40+ deals for vegan DHA supplements. The best deal I could find anywhere was DEVA Vegan algae DHA 200mg 90-Count from Amazon. It comes out to 24 cents a pill. The Spectrum Essentials was a little less per pill but with much less DHA per pill, making the DEVA a much better value.
I have Amazon Prime and free shipping so this is part of what made it a good deal. The prices at VitaCost are somewhat comparable, but the shipping makes it a lot pricier. You can get free shipping there too if you spend over 50$.

From wikipedia: "Omega-3 fatty acids (also called ω−3 fatty acids or n−3 fatty acids[1]) refers to a group of three fats called ALA (found in plant oils), EPA, and DHA (both commonly found in marine oils)."

ALA is the only kind found in plants. But your body can convert that to EPA and DHA. to my knowledge we convert ala to epa easier than ala to dha. we can also take vegan versions of such things made from algae. lifes dha is vegan and is sometimes added to thinks like silk soymilk (it will say dha or omega 3 on the front) and also they added it to certain kinds of crisco canola oil. the jury is still "out" as to whether or not we need to supplement our diets with dha or not.

PS: this is the kind of dha pill i buy. i take a about 3 a week, so the bottle will probably last me 9-10 months. http://www.amazon.com/Spectrum-Essentials-Vegetarian-DHA-Softgels/dp/B001SB1T9Q/ref=sr_1_1?s=hpc&ie=UTF8&qid=1369977090&sr=1-1&keywords=spectrum+vegan+dha

I take Spectrum Vegetarian DHA but I didn't order it from Amazon, I found a bottle at Sprouts.
