buy.com still has it for $40 and origin has both the digital and physical for 50 with free shipping (expires mar 31).

edit: amazon has it for $38/$40, with free 2 day shipping for prime members

u/venom8599 · 4 pointsr/swtor

It's up for $19.99 on Amazon right now. Half the price they're asking for on Origin.

Cartel Coins cards do not grant subscription time.

There are Game Time cards for 60 days.
All the possible subscription options are listed on http://swtor.com/buy

Also you can still find the Digital copies of the game in markets. back in time when game wasnt F2p you had to buy the game before able to use it. The Game purchase included a one-time 30 day subscription time.
After the game went F2P this product become obsolete and usually is sold with big discounts. So you can buy it for $5-9 and have a 30 days of subscription (can be applied only once per account).

.

sub refer a sub feature is still working.
The owner of the reflink gets 500CartelCoins one-time and 100CC for every month the referred person stay subbed.
Also there is a ingame reward: unique speeder(mount) and 4 minipets for every new refferals.

The refered person will get a 7 days of subscription time, free transfer for 1 character, «prefered friend bundle» with 4 unlocks.

u/Crimsonbreeze · 3 pointsr/swtor

You can still buy the game. Amazon/ebay etc.
And it still comes with a 30days of sub time. Applied once per Accoount.

Another pro tip: Play on one of the more populated servers ;D have fun!

So if I buy the regular edition on amazon will I get the code right away?

u/nosut · 2 pointsr/gaming

Retail at $50 huh

Walmart

Gamestop

Amazon

"Retail" is simply the price sold by retail stores. They are set by what the company decides. Also maybe you need to look at the price of all current games. If you are saying $50 it seems like you have not bought a game in years.

u/gone_gaming · 1 pointr/swtor

You can pick up a digital copy of the game like this if you check other sellers its only $11.50 or so for the actual license n' whatnot which includes a cd-key for a 30day subscription. Same as you would get on G2A or other CD key websites and it's the same price. Saves ya $4.00 from a 1 month sub also!

Disclaimer: If you have previously activated a CD-Key on our account you can NOT use this to extend your sub.

If you like Bioware games like Kotor and Mass Effect you'll probably like the story quests. I just started Swtor this week and am enjoying it. Here's what I did:

I tried out the F2P mode for a few levels and liked what I saw but felt limited by some of the restrictions. But I liked the story telling and voice acting enough to want to keep playing.

http://www.swtor.com/free/features

So I purchased the physical game for 8 bucks on Amazon because it comes with a free month of subscription status and 500 coins to use in the game shop.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CWXAP2

Seemed worth it because the price to unlock the Preferred account status is buying anything from the store, but the lowest 500 Coin package is 5 dollars. So with the game disc on Amazon you get the month sub and 500 coins, plus another 100 coins each month for using an ios/android security key. After the month is over it drops down to Preferred.

If you use a referral link, like mine below, you get an extra week of subscription time and a referral bonus pack of items and unlocks.

http://www.swtor.com/r/lLF8KW

So for 8 dollars and a referral link, I got 37 days of subscription time to check out the Bioware story telling I enjoy.

> Is your display name what your character will be called & what others will you see above your head?

Your display name is basically your user name for the account and forums. It's never used in game for anything.

> Is there any referral links for a free subscription sign-up for like a week or month?

You get a Jumpstart Bundle for using a referral link. Returning subscribers can use a referral link for a separate goody bag called the Preferred Friends Bundle and free sub time once.

If you want a month of sub time one way to buy it is to buy the retail version of the game. When the 30 days run out you'll be considered a preferred account instead of a f2p player which gives you more character and inventory slots. However, 60 day of sub time is almost the same price.

I recommend getting a hard copy of the game from Amazon and do away with bitraider all together.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CWXAP2/ref=twister_B00HX1UXD8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

It's just $11.61 and free shipping if you have amazon prime if you don't have Amazon prime odds are some one you know does.

Even if you don't have amazon prime it just $3 more and a nominal fee for shipping.

I got mine in 3 days in Hawaii.

They only have 3 left in stock not sure if SWTOR even makes these anymore so if you want a hard copy id jump on it before it's gone.

-------

No more bitraider issues with original launcher with the hard copy of the game and much faster reinstall of the game. I haven't had a single launcher issue since I got the hard copy and did away with bitraider.

Hope this helps.

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic-PC/dp/B001CWXAP2

then here, this is a full 30 days of subscription and preferred status + 500 coins I believe.

u/FracOMac · 1 pointr/swtor

Not free, no. If you want though you can get the boxed copy from amazon for cheap ($6.85) which gives you a 30 day sub. You can only use this kind of key once per account though.

(1) Healing is very different, me coming from a pally main heals, the change was felt dramatically. Though from my experience, the sage is more like the traditional healer in wow, it has a ton of utility, and basically an ability to cover every gap, its imo not as challenging as the operative/scoundrel, merc/commando.

I could count exactly 5 of my heavy heals with my smuggler before going out of energy, you dont have the luxury to spam heals, you just cant afford to throw a non needed heal, basically changing to ammo/heat and energy as your resource besides the new mechanics that each class involves, brings a whole new level of fun.

(2) $40 on Amazon

(3) PvP is kind of a complicated topic to talk about, the real issue imo isnt class balance, there are stronger classes than others, but in general theyre all pretty much balanced, what really needs work is the attitude of the players, in my server theres constant negativity, on republic side, yes the population imbalance affects us somewhat, but it really pisses me off when i go into a warzone, and people think we lost before the game starts.

If the other team scores a goal in huttball, people start quitting and raging, ugh, freaking hate my faction's attitude, atleast give it a freaking try. Anyways, the issue here isnt the game itself but the players, and that on my server, dont know on others.

The physical version can be bought off Amazon for the same price with no pre-order fee, no tax, and $0.99 release date shipping: http://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Old-Republic-Pc/dp/B001CWXAP2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1322663906&sr=1-1. Also that fee comes out of the overall charge of $60; it's not some tacked on fee like your cellular phone bill. It's refundable and it's also called a deposit in every other industry. Origin WILL refund your 5 dollars if you choose to cancel your pre-order.

I, and many others, who live prefer to deal with the clutter of game boxes actually prefer digital download. It's also better for the environment to not waste the limited resources of the earth to just install the game if you have a decent internet connection (That's a personal choice and I understand many view things differently and that's okay).

You haven't been able to resell PC games for a long time now; Steam pretty much put an end to that. Before you could at least forfeit your game CD and hope the other person trusts you to not use the CD-key after you sold it or vice versa.

u/xelf · 1 pointr/swtor

I must be looking at a different link.

u/T3mpust · 0 pointsr/swtor

I had many issues with it and finally just opted to get the original game in DVD never had an issue since then.

https://www.amazon.com/Star-Wars-Old-Republic-PC/dp/B001CWXAP2/ref=pd_cp_63_1?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B001CWXAP2&pd_rd_r=TGW6CFNF11DG0DZJENKC&pd_rd_w=Tie54&pd_rd_wg=lejCT&refRID=TGW6CFNF11DG0DZJENKC&th=1

You may be able to find it cheaper used or on ebay.

Bitraider is a pain and has caused so many problems.

I been away for a while so not sure what the latest bitraider Help links are but here are a few:

Man, what if all I want is the data, and none of the physical trappings?

Have a look at the Amazon link, it's still a physical copy.

Honestly, I think it is a legitimate position to want a digitally distributed version without the hassle of Origin. I don't understand all the snark this position garners from this subreddit.
