The Kinect 2 works on my home desktop, which uses a Renesas USB 3.0 controller. It doesn't really work on my work desktop, which uses a TI USB 3.0 controller (have to reboot every time I want to use it).

I read that USB 3.0 PCIe Gen2 adapters can work. I ordered the following two adapters because they mention Renesas and Intel:

  • TechTick (Renesas)
  • StarTech (Intel)

Should have the StarTech on Thursday and the TechTick by Friday or Monday. I'll let you know what I find.

PS: The Kinect 2 is definitely amazing technology for the price, but god damn it has been a pain the ass to get working. Annoying enough that is requires Windows 8, but these very specific USB 3.0 controllers?

I don't see why it wouldn't work, especially if you get the USB 3.0 Host mentioned in the pastebin.

That being said, I am somewhat curious about your entire streaming process, and there may be other ways to go about it.

For instance, I'm looking over the webpage for the shuttle, and I'm not entirely clear about what it does that a strong computer (like the one's being recommended here) wouldn't be able to do.

So I guess if you could give us a technical rundown of how you stream, that would really help in assessing what you need.

My Google-fu is telling me that the Shuttle works with most Z87/Z97 boards as long as you use the Intel USB 3.0 ports that are on the motherboard (this will be located at the back of the computer once you put it together).

If that doesn't work though, the USB 3.0 card that was mentioned on that Pastebin you linked me will also do the trick. For $30 and your budget/needs, it seems like a good investment.
