A really good book that I appreciated when it first came out was "State Of Fear" by Michael Crichton. It's written as a novel but I feel it accurately represents the political airs around alarmism. He backs what he says with factual data and puts mans previous attempts at altering an ecosystem into perspective quite well. At this point, the arguments are somewhat outdated as the alarmists change their tune when empirical data is presented, but it's still a good read.

Edit: I'd like to hear other opinions on this book as well.

It's the only explanation for State of Fear.

You guys would really like this book. Despite how ridiculous the stuff sounds, some of it is surprisingly true.

People need fear. It makes them feel normal. They have to be afraid of someone hurting their kids, so it's only logical they'd pick men instead of women.

The problem is the culture of fear foisted upon childlike minds. State of Fear is a largely pointless book that got a lot of attention for supposed climate change denial, but there's two great pages where a character explains that the government, media, and lawyers benefit from everyone living in a "State of Fear."
