I have been testing this guy recently and it works pretty well: https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Stratus-Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller/dp/B015WKY3IM/

Stratus XL is a good controller to get, blue tooth and works both on Android and your PC
It's not cheap :-( Also some of these games will heat up your Samsung real fast, esp the games using Unreal engine.

The best feature in my opinion not only the games but the huge movie theater, it's like you're actually there. Not sure why Netflix went the home 80" TV route but maybe there will be an upgrade eventually.

It's not a great sale. I'll post any deals here.

EDIT: I'm done for now. I think my post got removed?

This one works great with the S7 Edge. I have not had any luck connecting the PS3/PS4 controllers.

There are actually two versions of the Stratus XL: one designed for use with Android and Windows, and one designed for use with iOS devices. There are some cosmetic differences and obviously some functional differences as well. If your current model works with your Apple TV it's probably the iOS version which doesn't behave correctly when used with the Gear VR platform (or Android in general).

I should have mentioned this but Android is everywhere in my life and iOS nowhere to be found so I'm a little blinkered (there's no philosophical stance involved, or misplaced devotion, it's just the way things turned out).

As for the controller you ordered it will almost certainly work it's just that some of the inputs might not be mapped correctly across all the experiences on the platform. Or maybe they will be.

Go in with minimal expectations. It's a really well done thing, ESPECIALLY considering it's running on your phone, but there are limitations and flaws.

Make sure you have at the very least some decent headphones. Using headphones makes a HUGE difference in VR. A Bluetooth controller isn't required for most apps in the store, but it doesn't hurt to have it for some games. Most apps control just fine with the touch pad, but there are a couple games that need one. I picked up a SteelSeries Stratus XL and it's sturdy and feels great, although it isn't rechargeable.

It's also not a bad idea to have a micro cloth and maybe some alcohol wipes and canned air on hand. You really want to make sure that there is as little dust, smudge on both sides of the lenses as well as on the screen, since you're gonna be seeing all of that really up close.

Now here are some apps that I've tried and I think are must have so far:

Introduction to Virtual Reality
A relatively short video of some clips that show you what VR is about.

Netflix
You're in a cozy cabin with a mountain view watching Netflix on a giant TV. Really immersive.

Oculus Video
You can stream different types of videos from facebook, twitch and vimeo and play them on a big screen in different settings like home theater, movie theater and even on the moon. Works in a similar way as the Netflix app.

Milk VR
Another streaming service, but without an immersive area where you're relaxing, just a floating screen. You can play downloaded VR videos through this app.

Cirque du Soleil's Kurios and Zarkana
I've never been interested in Cirque du Soleil, but seeing it up close in 360 and 3D is really neat. Zarkana is a really short part of it and Kurios is a 10 minute act. Really fantastic, immersive stuff.

Jurassic World: Apatosaurus
Short video where you're sitting on a log in the woods with a giant sauropod from the Jurassic Era comes out of the ground and asks for money. We was so scared, lord have mercy. WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM US, MONSTER?

Dreadhalls
Randomly generated dungeon crawler where you don't have weapons and are stuck with a bunch of nasty creatures. I love horror games and have been playing them for many years, but this one makes me really uncomfortable. Play with headphones.

Land's End
Kind of a mild puzzle experience with really nice, clean visuals. Very neat

StreetView VR
It's not 3D, but really cool to be able to just zap around the world and see 360 images of places where you've never been. Swipe up and you get a random location, swipe down and you can tell it where to go. Voice recognition has worked for me really well so far. There isn't any ambient audio in the app, so I recommend playing your own music before you start this.

There are a TON of different apps out there and a bunch that I haven't mentioned, so have fun with it when you get it.

I have this one, https://www.amazon.com/SteelSeries-Stratus-Bluetooth-Wireless-Controller/dp/B015WKY3IM

One of the best gamepads I've used for android. Has both R1 and R2 as well as L1 and L2. I emulate N64 and PS1 games and it feels very nice. Analog sticks are really smooths. Plus, gamepad can be connected to PC.

u/Transill · 1 pointr/gadgets

Here you go. Not only is it functional with all of the emulators and even samsungs gear vr and googles daydream, but it also works as a PC game controller for windows. I have this one and its amazing. I stream the phone screen to the TV with google chromecast and have a emulator box for my tv or play on the go with my phone screen.

Fantastic, thanks. I just got a controller and love it, but was looking for good ways to use it.

I use the Steel Series Stratus XL. LINK

While I actually prefer keyboard + mouse for most games, the Steelseries XL is my favorite PC controller (because sometimes I don't want to sit at a desk to game). A bit of an XBox controller shape, but with the Playstation button/stick layout (having the sticks straight across from each other has always made more sense to me).

The Steam Controller takes a bit of getting used to, but is great for games that weren't designed for a controller as it acts as a trackpad. It is the one I use if I play Civilization on the couch:

Pretty much everyone recommends the SteelSeries Stratus. It's a very well made Bluetooth controller and it's about $10 cheaper than the Xbox One S controller. Personally I wouldn't spend less than $30 on a controller. Quality is important, trust me.

u/OwThatHertz · 1 pointr/GearVR

Fair enough. To answer your original question, the S8+ is technically compatible with the 2016 Gear VR but there are some slight fitment issues. The general consensus is that the 1027 2017 version fits and works better, so make sure you can find the model number of the Gear VR and that it matches the 2017 version.

Regarding cellular vs. non-cellular, I use a 2016 version with a carrier-locked Galaxy S7 edge that has the SIM pulled and it only uses WIFI. It works fine. I can't speak to the specific demo model you're talking about as I haven't used it, but it sounds like it should work. If the only difference is that the cellular radio doesn't work, but all other functionality (including Bluetooth and WIFI and the Oculus software) works, you should be fine.

Note that Bluetooth and WIFI being functional will be important. WIFI for downloads and Bluetooth for the remote and for controllers. It's possible that one or both of these will also have been disabled in the demo, so I'd confirm with the seller that both work before proceeding. That said, I've seen store demos that had functional Bluetooth and I'm not sure if it's a separate radio or not. I think it is, because I can put my phone into Airplane mode (disables all radios) and then enable Bluetooth and WIFI while Airplane Mode is still active.
However, given that we're in different markets, I'd still ask the seller first.

For controllers, I recommend the Steelseries Stratus XL or, even better, an Xbox 360 wireless controller. Note that the current version of the Xbox Elite Controller is not bluetooth (uses a dongle) so will not work with Android, so stick with the non-Elite for now. There's supposedly a new version of the Elite controller about to be released that uses Bluetooth instead, but I haven't seen any confirmation on release date as yet.

Good luck!

Edit: typo.

This controller has worked for everything I have tried to play:
Steel Series

Hi, I'm currently experiencing an issue with a wireless controller where it randomly is unresponsive for a few seconds. I'm on Windows 10 and the Controller I have is the SteelSeries Stratus XL. The bluetooth adapter I am using for my PC is an Asus. I am using this controller for GTA 5 on Steam

I've tried with 3 different cables that I had and none of them worked. Unless all of those 3 cables were dead too. lol

But anyway, I've already replaced it with an X-One S Controller and a Steelseries controller (the fat one).

So I guess I'll try and just sell it someone. :p

EDIT: This one

I got the SteelSeries Stratus XL which was highly recommended. Its $60 but worth the money. My 2nd choice was the NES30 Pro, but I didn't feel like hunting it down and waiting for shipping. Heres a link with it.
