This is what I use on my lawn and it does fine. Make sure you get a decent extension cord. I measured my lawn out and I can do it all with a 100' extension cord. I have about 2000sqft of lawn.
Based on the pictures it looks like your grass is really tall so you may have to go easy, do like half cuts the first run at the HIGHEST cut setting. Cut it high all summer. We are just about out of our high growth season so it'll slow down soon.
If you hate the mower, you can unload it on craigslist for $100 or just upgrade to a gas mower later. For my needs this has been fine.

What is wrong with it? What type of mower is it? (Riding, push?) Someone else offered, but I also can help walk you through repairs.
HOWEVER, some repairs (especially on push) can run more time and money than it is worth.
If the yard is kind if small, and you have enough extension cords, get this: (Take the bagger off at least the first time you mow, you don't need it)

It won't last forever, but it is a surprisingly strong little mower. It is also the same price you'd pay for a cheap gas weed eater if you don't have enough cords for using an electric (electric weeders are about 40).
