But if you want the sideways Joycon to be more comfortable, I'd recommend picking up a pair of these

u/ilikegamesandstuff · 28 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Not OP, but they look like these ones.

u/_kaesu · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Surge grip kit includes exactly what you're looking for. If you're not interested in the joycon grips, $15 is probably too pricey for just the thumb grips, but they are really nice.

u/Apparently_Coherent · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think these ones are better because you still have access to the ZL/ZR buttons, even though it's likely that almost no games will take advantage of them, it's a nice feature to have for a similar price.

u/FuriousFalcon · 5 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

My impression is that the exact position of the joystick doesn't really matter. The joycons are small enough that one isn't significantly less or more comfortable than the other. As someone who is preparing for MK8D myself, and recently bought another set of Joycons... I'd definitely recommend something like Surge's JoyCon Grip (https://www.amazon.com/Surge-Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Grips-Thumb/dp/B01MT9RSST/) to help make the controllers a little larger and more comfortable though.

u/EK_Gras · 4 pointsr/MARIOPARTY

You can only use one Joy-Con per player, as the other person said. If you want them to feel more comfortable, maybe try the Surge Grips on Amazon, or another kind of the same thing.

EDIT: On second thought, the FASTSNAIL Grips look a bit more comfortable.

u/JoshuaJSlone · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

A lot of Switch accessories seem to be made by generic Chinese sources and sold under various brand names so you might see these under different names, but I like these. Before they were out I tried the Surge ones, but they're smaller and don't have mechanisms to make the SL/SR buttons larger.

The one advantage the Surge ones have is still leaving it possible to press the regular shoulder buttons, but that's just a theoretical advantage since I don't think anything uses them in single Joy-Con mode at this point.

u/brucepucci · 3 pointsr/nintendo

If it's just for Mario Kart you could probably get by on the Joy Cons and these... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT9RSST/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

We play Mario Kart just fine on them. But it was BotW is much better with the pro controller IMO.

Have a pan down those reviews, it's definitely not the norm as only a few people mention it, maybe it's defective ones? If that is the case you'd probably be safe if you haven't experienced it yet.

Haven't thought about them for travel, they definitely look way more portable than the bottom two I got. The gioteck ones would probably be alright to travel with too. The slide on grips that came with the switch fit in my case though so I tend to just take those out with me.

u/blandbento · 3 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I respectfully disagree. I bought the Surge grip and it is extremely comfortable for both the right and left joy-con. It has made my 2-player playthrough of Snipperclips much more enjoyable. My only complaint is that the shoulder buttons are a little bit small but it's not bad. The TopAce grips looks like it fixes this problem. In my opinion, these third party grips offer a much more pleasant experience than the one Nintendo provides with the joy-con straps.

No battery pack here, but I just bought these, and they're great: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT9RSST

u/khcasual · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought this for my joycons,

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT9RSST/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1

It's great for games like Snipperclips or any co-op game that uses the joycons separated. It's currently unavailable but there are multiple items similar to this on Amazon, would definitely recommend if you plan on playing w/ friends or family.

u/zStatykz · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I've personally ordered a few because I was worried the rather small number of different accessories on Amazon would run out of stock (much like the Switch itself).

So far I've bought:

  • Tempered glass screen protector
  • DBrand custom skin
  • Surge carrying case
  • Surge Joycon Grips: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT9RSST/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These grips will be great when playing things like Snipperclips, Fast RMX, or any other simple multiplayer game with others. Most retailers around me won't be selling these accessories anyway so I don't have a choice. I don't feel worried about buying these things because their quality in getting them early isn't going to change after release. If something breaks when I'm using it now, it would've done it later down the line anyway.

I use:
These

They work well, are cheap, and have access to side buttons. They will change your joycon life!

I just got a switch and love everything I bought. It really depends on what you're going to do with it. If it's for portable gaming, a stand is a must. The HORI stand is only $14 US and allows you to charge while playing.

If you plan on playing with friends, consider another set of joy cons. I also invested in Surge joy con grips so they felt more comfortable in my hand.

If you plan on playing a lot of single player, then pro controller.

I plan on mostly single player and couch co-op games, so here's what I bought:

Screen Protector

Joy Con charging station

Extra Joy Con set

4 Joy Con grips

Pro Controller

*Links are just to show what I bought, and in no way reflect the best/most reasonable price

Since I'm not going to be doing much portable, I held off on stand and case, but will most likely purchase when I am in need. Maybe the stand sooner than later so my wife can watch her shows and I can play my Zelda :)

u/crenstro · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I ordered these ones last week and just ordered another set for my second joycons. They are pretty sweet!

u/pretenderist · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Surge and FASTSNAIL have high rated ones on Amazon, but they're not currently in stock.

u/Cryst · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I bought it last night, its great, I'm fine with the price. I purchased these little joy con grips and playing with the joy cons is awesome! https://www.amazon.ca/Surge-Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Grips/dp/B01MT9RSST/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1496259502&sr=8-5&keywords=joy+con+grip

if you're gonna be playing the nintendo online nes games I find that single joycons + https://www.amazon.com/Surge-Nintendo-Switch-Grip-Grips-Thumb/dp/B01MT9RSST?th=1 is really dang fun

u/chemiclord · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You mean something like this perhaps?

u/8bitcerberus · 2 pointsr/nintendo

Far too small for my hands, but I ordered a pair of these and they should be arriving soon, this week or next. Read and watched some good reviews before ordering, so I'm hopeful they'll make the JoyCons comfortable enough, if not for me, at least for my friends because I'll be using my Pro Controller :D

u/TuncheTV · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Simple. Get this. The grip is amazing and fits larger hands. Also it's cheap and you get 2. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MT9RSST/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/RavioliSpills · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

If your planning on playing some multiplayer games, each player with a single joy con, get the the Surge Grip Kit, it's like $12 and makes it so much better using single joy cons.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MT9RSST

u/DoubleSpoiler · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Get grips or wheels.

  • Official wheel

  • Official-like wheel

  • Slim wheel

  • Slick grip - Probably the most "normal" controller feel

  • Slim grip - The only grip I found that lets you lock in each joycon so they don't come out. Doesn't seem like a big deal to me TBH.

  • Medium grip - I have these and I like them.

Grips are more useful for other games if you think people might be turned off by the wheel shape, but the wheels seem like they fit pretty substantially in the hand. Either choice is great.
u/Insigzilla · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

These are the ones I got:

https://www.amazon.com/Surge-Nintendo-Switch-Joy-Con-Grips-Thumb/dp/B01MT9RSST/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1493734025&sr=1-3&keywords=joy%2Bcon%2Bgrips&th=1

My only problem with them is that the trigger buttons on them are pass-through (you push buttons built into the grip that then push the triggers on the joy-con itself), but they are still tiny like the triggers are when holding the joy-con sideways. If you're going to make pass-through buttons, why not make them big, like on the straps? Because of this, and since I plan to eventually have 4 joy-cons for multiplayer games, I also bought these:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XWCMKST/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1493734025&sr=1-7&keywords=joy+con+grips

Unfortunately, they have yet to arrive as they are being shipped from another country. They look good, though.

Edit: After looking at the grips again, it looks like the first grips I ordered are back-logged on Amazon. The second set of grips I ordered look like they're not getting the greatest of reviews. You may want to go with the ones that 'homohyoid' ordered.

These are a set of "hollow" controllers that the Joy Con fit into to make them a little more comfortable. They come with a covering thing to add extra size and grip to the joysticks too, and those work really great for me. Not a standalone option, but it might be worth it if you want the controller shells too.

u/TemptedTemplar · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

this is a super common one, though lots of people still complain because they are basically tiny gamepads. Unfortunately there isnt much else in terms of bigger grips. There are things of these shapes and size, and the small wheels.

Im sure people are also 3d printing a bunch.

u/ematanis · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Joycons for 4 players Mario Kart and 2 Players ARMS.
Also there are Joycon Grips for each joycon that has access to all the buttons from Surge.

It really depends on which third party grips you buy (beware, there are some really crappy grips out there). Also, as opposed to one or two anecdotal opinions of a certain grip, I like to read many reviews of the higher-rated ones on Amazon.

Here, read the reviews by other customers:

Anybody have any JoyCon grip recommendations?

I currently have this set which work fine. My only complaint would be that the trigger buttons are pretty small.

I would like to get a different set for my second joy con (to have 4 grips total) so people have more options to choose from for multiplayer games. Any recommendations?
