I bought this book off of eBay for about $5.00 and it was worth every penny. As most of you remember, there was story time with Bob after the second intermission the past few seasons where he would tell a fun, humorous story from the Kings’ extensive history. This book is pretty much the written version of that. From former owner Jack Kent Cooke paying a stripper to streak across the Forum with a Kings banner for publicity, to a bus driver trying to run over Red Wings fans, to elitist fans wearing buttons that read, “I was a Kings fan before WG” after The Trade, this book has it all. There are a number of stories that I recall first hearing from story time with Bob that are repeated in this book, but they’re still great. The writing also does a good job at capturing the rhythm of Bob’s voice so it’s pretty easy to imagine his voice telling the stories in your mind. The book was published around 2006 and most of the stories are from the 70s and 80s so the more recent iterations of the team are totally absent. There seems to be a “Stanley Cup Edition” of this book, but I haven’t been able to find it for a reasonable price so I don’t know if that one offers anymore recent stories or if it’s substantially different from this version. Still, this is a great book if you want some fun stories about the Kings’ past as narrated by Bob Miller. Hopefully he’ll publish a Tales From the Los Angeles Kings Two (Cups).
