Thanks. As you know, it's a difficult thing that is hard to get across. I know exactly what you mean. I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Unfortunately this is more an issue with our building construction than our neighbors themselves. We've already transferred apartments in the same building thinking it was the upstairs neighbors. I've never had upstairs neighbors so I had no idea I would have this reaction! I have other misophonia triggers but this one is constantly in my life.

IDK if you have used noise cancelling headphones but they focus on bass sounds and low frequency sounds like air conditioners. They work perfectly for the bass part of the footsteps, however those sounds are sometimes masking the root sound. So if someone drops something upstairs, I won't hear the bass but I will hear the object hitting, if that makes sense. For that reason I tend not to wear them to sleep. They have a way of clarifying certain sounds that will pull me right out of sleep. During the day though they are perfect. The bass is my trigger so it masks that.

I have two pairs of noise cancelling headphones. Both cheap ones. The best ones are supposedly the Sony WH1000XM3. I have Taotronics over ear headphones and earbuds. Of the two, the earbuds work the best, especially with foam ear tips. The trick is to insert them like earplugs by pulling up on your ear with the opposite hand before inserting. In all, noise cancelling headphones have saved my life, though they may not work for everyone because they are designed to allow human voices and sounds to carry through.

I have TaoTronics TT-BH060 and used them on a flight. They did a very good job of actively cancelling the turbine noise. It was still audible, but it reduced the magnitude by about 75%. The ANC when switched on in a silent area sounds like white noise, and it seems to reduce the bass a bit. The noise disappears once I start playing content so I wonder if they are trying to "cancel" nothing. If you turn the ANC on with something that has a constant noice, like a dryer, turbine, etc, the ANC works very well. The ANC doesn't really do much to reduce sudden noises like crashes, bangs, or talking (unless its a mass drone of lots of people talking, like in an airport), but the isolation helps reduce the magnitude of those types of noises.

Overall, the sound is great for the price in my opinion. I compared them to Sony and Bose at BestBuy and in no way did I think those are worth $300 extra. I am not an audiophile though, and although I like the audio quality, I may not be a great judge. For some media, typically video content, the sound doesn't get ear-blast loud, but the over ear isolation and ANC makes up for it (and the volume is still decent, on par with Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2, which I also have). I find them quite comfortable, but they can get a little warm on the ear due to the over-ear design. I have not noticed any audio delays or sync issues when watching videos, I'm not sure if they are using apt-X. Unlike the Backbeats, you cannot remain connected to 2 devices, only 1 at a time.

I also bought the Boltune BH010 for someone else, and they appear to be exactly the same as the TT-BH060 (but $20 cheaper and 5% - 12% off coupon). Watch out, TaoTronics produced a set of BH010, but they are not the same as the Boltune BH010 (clone of TT-BH060). Kind of confusing. I don't have any relation to any of these products or the manufacturers, I just figured I'd share my experience since there was very little published when I was researching. The only thing I saw was a video buy a guy named el Jefe.
