As former PS4 player very used to DS4 but they are $$$ and fail every 3 months or so... so I switched to wired knockoff DS4's like this one:

1/3 of cost of actual DS4's with similar lifespan, feels close to the real thing, and I always played through USB cable anyways. So I went cheap route -- 3 controllers lasting 9 months vs buying a more $$$ expensive controller that might last longer. Note this one doesn't have a headphone jack but others do and there are knockoff bluetooth versions as well.
You can also go the extended warranty route depending on where you buy from. Controllers are actually worth it I think. Usually for only a couple extra bucks you can cover yourself for a year or two.
