I just finished The 5 Elements of Effective Thinking. It's a quick read and some of the topics are obvious but some are not. I'd recommend
it.

Why would you assume that JBP understands all the roots and implications of his ideas, or that you could not develop as complete an understanding (or even more complete)?
That takes a lot of work, but assuming it can't be done means you never get started.
