When ever I see someone looking for color advice around here I suggest this book, it's an awesome place to start.

This is the best source for film color theory, hands down. I didn't read it until I'd been doing color work for months, and I still learned SO much from it.

Yeah, I used one node to match exposure using the scopes and then a second node for color using the color wheels. Super easy if you have image wipe on to compare. Learn the absolute basics of color correction and grading and you'll be able to do this in 10 minutes.

I learned from this book and have heard good things about this one as well.

This is a great book for learning color correction. It's not cheap, but it's dense. Lots of great stuff. I know the guy who wrote it, he's very sharp.

The biggest thing is to learn to color in an adult, mature way instead of like a teenage girl trying on makeup for the first time. There's a time and place for crazy looks, but the best looks are generally more sophisticated than over-the-top. They're obviously looks, but they don't call attention to themselves to the point where you're wondering if the colorist was drunk or high when they did the work. They enhance the story instead of putting on their own show.

I'm not actually a full-on color guy, just an editor who does a lot of color work when necessary, but most of my knowledge comes from reading this book and just learning from trial and error working on lots of projects. Perhaps others can point you to more useful content.
