Here are the books I got, they're pretty useful:

The Expectant Father by Armin A. Brott and Jennifer Ash:
good month by month guide to what's going on with your partner while she's pregnant, lets you know what to expect, what to worry about and what not to worry about, along with some general advice/info. Also tells you what things are like from her perspective, which is helpful.

Be Prepared by Gary Greenberg and Jeannie Hayden:
this one is good for getting ready for actually having a baby - contains basic but important stuff like how to burp a kid, car seats, how to feed it, dealing with teething, and most everything else up until they're about 1. Extremely practical.

She's Having a Baby, I'm Having a Breakdown, by James D. Barron:
very similar to The Expectant Father, but broken down into trimesters instead of months and more oriented around what you might be worried about or freaking out over. More general than some other books I've seen, by which I mean more practical and useful.

Honorable Mention:

Father For Life by Armin A. Brott (who also wrote The Expectant Father):
this one goes from pregnancy until your kids move out basically, so it's a lot more general, but I think it's useful for people who are worried about how they'll do as a parent or what their kids might expect of them. It seems like it was written for you to take it off the shelf every year and refer to it, but you don't have to treat it like that - instead it sort of unpacks the way they next couple of decades could unfold, what you have to look forward to, to expect, and keep in mind. Good "soul-searching" sections.

All of these books make the same claim-to-importance ("there's way more reading for women than there is for men!") but I like them better than others because they don't then placate or coddle you - I think other books can be extremely condescending, but YMMV.

I was looking at parenting books and came across The Caveman's Pregnancy Companion: A Survival Guide for Expectant Fathers. This book pissed me off so much. It was condescending and just did nothing but perpetuate the stereotype. And it is geared towards the men!

Listen, the only book that will do you any good is the book that you will read. You can get into the really deep What To Expect When Expecting, which is the go to book for all mother's to be and contains a lot of helpful and useful information. For me, I got The Caveman's Pregnancy Companion: A Survival Guide For Expectant Fathers. It is written to go in depth enough that you can be there for your wife and know what is going on, but won't bore you to death. In my opinion, you don't need to be an expert, that is what the Dr. is for. It has a lot of tips to get you through the pregnancy and some tips for what to do when the baby gets here.

I would highly recommend it.

edit: I just realized that you were asking more about the parenting aspect, but I stand by my choice. It does have some good information in it about parenting and raising a child.

I bought my boyfriend the Caveman Pregnancy Companion. It's a good book. He likes it because it's better than my baby books. It provides insight into what's going on with me, what he can do to help, and also has some tasty, easy recipes.

This came up not to long ago and I will put what I put before
It is very informative and research based but still fun "Caveman's guide to ...." http://www.amazon.com/Cavemans-Pregnancy-Companion-Survival-Expectant/dp/140273526X
A something a lot lighter and just fun to get him into the idea

The latter has a lot less hard fact but I know I enjoyed it and it got me prepped to read the bigger, harder stuff.

Caveman's Guide to Pregnancy

It's a good book. But, be forewarned, most pregnancy books for fathers make you feel stupid and basically make you feel like you're going to fail as a father.

Not sure if he's the reading type, but I'd recommend The Caveman's Guide to Pregnancy

A bit more lighthearted than many of the traditional books (Calvin and Hobbes should be your first pick), I found The Caveman's guide to Baby's first year when I was expecting my son. It was pretty information heavy, but humorous throughout.

There is one for pregnancy as well.

My husband was a little slow to start, but after every ultrasound he has gotten more interested in what is going on with my pregnancy and the baby. I think he worried at the beginning about getting too invested in the baby and then having something go wrong. Since we started seeing the baby move, he has joined daddit, predaddit, and bought the book the Caveman's Pregnancy Companion. http://www.amazon.com/The-Cavemans-Pregnancy-Companion-Expectant/dp/140273526X

He's been slow to read it, but since he is finishing his dissertation, I gave him a pass.

I read a few and wasn't impressed but my sons father loved this one. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/140273526X/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1369791249&sr=8-1&pi=SL75
