I have realized my mistakes for questions 2 and 3 (still no clue about 1 & 4). To anyone else who doesn't know why:
The use of a coordinating conjunction after a semicolon is generally frowned upon (source).
Despite semicolons and periods being the exact same, this explains why the ACT prefers:
"...nickname. Because ..."
to
"...nickname; but because..." (question 3).
The same logic applies for question 2 (why the answer choice isn't D).
My ACT prep book (source) has also pointed out that for almost all cases whenever the ACT decides to test semicolons, they will either use it either with no words in between (complete sentence 1; complete sentence 2) or with conjunctive adverbs such as however, therefore, moreover, etc.. (complete sentence 1; however, complete sentence2). But never with a conjunctive adverb (FANBOYS).
I would recommend Erica Meltzer's books on ACT English and Reading sections. They're a bit pricey (>$29), but I've heard that they are excellent resources at tackling those sections.

This one then correct? Thank you so much, friend.
