It's all relative and correlation, not causation, if a city is mostly white people when it starts to decline, of course it's going to look like a white flight. Just like in 1990-2010 when the city was mostly black and it went into another crash, it looked like a black flight.

I don't need a graph to remember my history, I live here. My numbers came from this book

There were about 1.9M people in Detroit in the 1950 census, about 300K were black, about 16% of the people.

After the suburban expansion that happened everywhere - in 1960 it was about 1.67M people, with 480K black, about 30% of the people.

We stayed pretty much level on a population per square mile by 1970 census, only 3 years after the spark. 1.51M people, over 600K black, 44% of the population.

By 1980 there were 1.2M people, 1990 barely 1M, 2000 about 950K and now there are about 700K total people.
