There's another parallel with Mar-a-Lago having had a previous connection to a horribly shitty Russian leader, and the tenant that lived there supporting said leader. Marjorie Post's ex-husband was a diplomat to Russia during Stalin's purges, and heavily defended him while Stalin was purging not only Russians and other Soviet citizens, but Americans who emigrated to Russia to find work during the Depression. Even after Stalin's actions started coming out, this guy was still defending him. Can't remember the name off the top of my head, but the author of the book I read about it, The Forsaken: An American Tragedy in Stalin's Russia, Tim Tzouliadis, goes into it in pretty great detail. It's a great book, though depressing as hell, because these poor people tried to make a better life for themselves and their families during a terrible time, and not only suffered horribly for it, but the whole thing has been glossed over by America for decades.

It's another really shitty parallel.

Edit: Got a chance to look it up, it was Joseph Davies.

It should also be mentioned that the Soviets stole passports from many immigrants and told their consulates that the had given up their citizenship. They were essentially held hostage in Russia.
