A couple of really good SciFi books with great philosophical elements are The Dispossessed and The Lathe of Heaven, both by Ursula Le Guin. I'd definitely recommend them as a quick read (quick as in not involved in a long/ongoing series like several other suggestions).

If you are interested in this topic, there is a great story about the perils of wish fulfillment called The Lathe Of Heaven by Ursula LeQuin.

It is about a guy who has dreams that reshape reality. Whatever he dreams changes the world. His psychologist tries to harness this power to make the world a better place.

Have you ever read The Lathe of Heaven? Some aspects are a lot like that.

The Lathe of Heaven is pretty accessible. It's a great story about a guy who claims that his dreams change reality.

The Dispossessed and The Left Hand of Darkness are good starting points too.

Yes, that was my immediate thought, too. For the uninitiated, that's The Lathe of Heaven by Ursula Le Guin, one of the classics of modern scifi.
