In order to support Marx, Engels took a job he hated at a factory for about 20 years -- this would be during the years that the term "Marxism" first took hold. During this time Engels still heavily contributed to the theory (I still would say basically equal with Marx overall) via extensive communications/collaborations with Marx but "publicly" he only wrote some articles (some of which were published under Marx's name), and wrote his own "The Peasant War in Germany". Also Engels had a bit of a personal modesty which led him to belittle his quite sizeable contributions to the theory. This lecture touches on some of this, as well as the "Marx against Engels myth" that claims their views were greatly different and attempts to blame perceived flaws in Marxist practice Engels. This is an excellent biography of Engels that the lecture heavily draws from.
