There are obvious reasons for Indigenous people to write Sci Fi. Among them:
SF is very strongly linked to Colonialism and Colonial themes (first contact, colonizing other planets, etc.)
Lots of SF deals with postapocalyptic themes and Indigenous people have arguably already gone through an apocalypse of sorts
Indigenous people are often viewed in popular culture as relics of the past, so writing SF and talking about Indigenous futures is inherently subversive
