What specifically is he interested in? History of bodybuilding?

Arnold's Encyclopedia of Body Building is about $20. I think it includes a picture of Ronnie Coleman. Ronnie Coleman has a book, but I doubt it's very useful training wise, and is expensive. The weight training info isn't excessively useful in Arnold's book either.

The Purposeful Primitive is a book I'm getting this year, so I don't know a lot about the contents except I know it includes some history and quotes from people like Bill Pearl.. a lot of history and tidbits.

If you're looking for good books on training then the answers are different, though I've heard good things about The Purposeful Primitive, so it may be the best of both worlds for you.

Dude, at your height and age 1200 calories is not even close to enough for you. You're losing a ton of muscle along with the fat and your just sagging. You need more calories, and since your smart enough to go keto you can trust yourself to add in what you need. Head over to /r/fitness and talk to them about your goals, nutrition, and exercise regimen.
Your 17 fucking years old, your metabolism will do what it's told. Eat a shit load of lean protein and vegetables, lift heavy weights, and beast the fuck out. I personally recommend taking a martial art (any martial art) since you will get cardio, functional strength, flexibility, balance and learn an empowering skill that's fun as fuck - but that's just my thing. I also highly recommend the book The Purposeful Primitive which very clearly and orderly explains weight lifting, cardio, nutrition, and the mental aspects of working out. Seriously it's a very comprehensive resource while still being a joy to read. -Good Luck Bud!
