Have you read JFs book? He makes a very convincing argument to be afraid of gene editing.

Well, there's certainly lots of uncertainties and dangers with genetically modifying humans. JF did a relatively good job of arguing in his book that AI will utilize genetic engineering in order to gradually transform humans into docile slaves and even replace all DNA-based lifeforms on this planet. I personally think that he's fear mongering, and so I still strongly support genetic engineering as a cure-all for all of humanities current problems. But I am still worried about genetic arms races between nations or the left utilizing genetic engineering in order to churn out legions of SJWs. And I also share your fear that countries like China will have the same sort of advantage over America and the West that we had over Japan in WWII since I think that genetic engineering has the potential to be just as powerful as nuclear weapons - which I wrote about in more detaile here. And I'm also worried about genetic engineering going too far into the realm of transhumanism. I'm more interested in improving our race and our species than replacing us entirely with God knows what.

But I'm still absolutely terrified of AGI regardless of how advanced genetically engineered humans will be in the future. AGI has the potential to become a God. We're talking IQs in the trillions, let alone in the hundreds or thousands with genetically engineered biological life. AGI will get to the point where it's making dozens of Nobel Laureate discoveries per second... And so not only will it be an existential threat to humans on Earth, but it will get to the point where it can harness all of the energy of an entire galaxy and use that energy to create wormholes and almost instantly transport itself to any location in the Universe. And so it will be an existential threat to all biological life in the entire Universe... That's why it needs to regulated out of existence immediately. AGI is simply too powerful to fuck with.

And yes, I also realize that genetically engineering humans to be much more intelligent will make the development of AGI even more likely. But I still think that danger can be minimized if we all agree that AGI research is simply too dangerous to meddle with.
