As for cardio, running is as much a mental challenge as a physical one. I was told to take this mentality: it doesn't matter how fast you run as long as you keep running. You can be running a 16 min mile, your run can be slower than a walk, but just don't lose the running gait. Speed will come, but for now it's about the mental endurance. Just like conditioning a horse, slowly working up the length and intensity of your runs as you become more fit.

Every other day I do 20 min of cardio and one of the strength training programs.
I do highly recommend going with a buddy that has experience weight lifting to help push you be make sure you have the correct form.
